Okra...in any way, shape, or form...BLECH!!!:scared:
My dad (from Durham, NC) likes it. I, however, was born and raised in Southern CA and cannot stand the slimy stuff. Sorry. But, that is what makes us all unique. Enjoy your okra TexasCourt.:)

Another "Yah!" here..... :cool1: It is on the menu for Father's Day...steaks, baked potatoes, salad & fried okra!

I love it - grew up helping pick it from my grandmother's garden...man that stuff is itchy!

It is a rare treat these days - my poor arteries (and waistline) don't need too much fried stuff. But yum, yum, yum - it is Southern Fried Comfort Food. :thumbsup2

Love it in gumbo too, but it is not known as gumbo - it is a frequent ingredient in gumbo.

How funny! I am living in Durham right now going to school for my grad degree, but I lived in SoCal for 3 years for my undergrad (USC-Fight On!!!)! No worries, we are all different! I was just curious to see if there were any other okra lovers out there!

BTW, I miss So Cal like none other!!!

YAY! I know it is not known as gumbo, however, gumbo was a regular meal for me growing up....lump crab meat, crawfish, okra, YUM! My mouth is watering! Thanks a lot!;)

You can bread it in cornmeal and bake it, thank you.

Well, that might work for me. ;) We just don't see all that much OKRA in the stores here (not so sure that is a BAD thing!). And TexasCourt, my DH is a Trojan, master's from there, HUGE HUGE fan...and he's never met an okra he liked either. ;)

Love it! And thank you rascalmom, I was wondering when okra became gumbo. :teeth: But I do looooove a big bowl of gumbo. Another favorite of mine is stewed okra and tomatoes. But the okra can't be slimy, and the tomatoes have to be cooked. So it's a delicate balance. And I am southern to my roots! :teeth::thumbsup2

No way!!! (Not about the okra---but trust me, it is great that way as well!;) ). I cannot believe your DH is a trojan! Perhaps he is as nuts as I am when it comes to the Cardinal and Gold, lol :lmao: . Tell him "FIGHT ON!" and get ready for an awesome season!!!!:dance3: :woohoo: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Oh, TRUST ME, he is as nuts as you are for the Trojans! :cool1: Our teen daughter is well-schooled in the FIGHT ON tradition...in fact she was wearing her USC shirt today on her bike ride with dad.

Haha, that is AWESOME!!!!;) I love my Trojans more than almost anything. Pete Carroll is my hero :worship: :worship: :worship: Glad to hear your daughter has joined the SC cult!;) Does she want to go to SC???

I love fried okra. My grandmother's had a thick crust. I can't seem to duplicate it. I've asked my 3 aunts and I've tried their version but it just isn't the same.:sad2:

My nephew starts at USC this fall. He said the USC campus tour was absolutely the best one that he went on over the past 2 years. He lives in Phoenix. I guess we'll have to go Disneyland when we go for a visit.:thumbsup2

I loved fried okra from the first time I tried it over 30 years ago!

I love it, but I never think about buying some for home.

My Nanny made the best okra and stewed tomatoes ever. I loved her fried okra too. It is something that my Yankee boy DH just can't stomach. Okra is definitely a Southern thing.

We love fried okra. My kids gobble it up before anything else when I make it.
