My 6 year old Kennmore Elite is on its last legs. I will NOT buy from Sears or buy a Kennmore again. We redid our kitchen 6 years ago replaced all the appliances including washer and dryer oh and a lawn tractor 2 years ago and have nothing but trouble with all of them! So what brands and models do you recommend? (For a fridge) Incidently my dryer also quit again but we are trying to fix that. Oh also I want to spend under $900

All the major brands make appliances for Sears. Sears does not build its own appliances. They are simply branded as Kenmore. If you eliminate all of them, you will have nothing left. I have a Kenmore Elite refrigerator, a freezer, washer and dryer and am very satisified. I researched who made each particular appliance before I made my purchase. I checked Consumer Reports, Sears online, and every review I could find. We also are careful to read all the manuals and to follow the instructions regarding maintenance. Dryers usually last a really long time. I would check the dryer vent and lint buildup inside the machine.

I have a stainless steel LG for our family of 7 (3 teens). I don't know the model, I didn't buy it since it came with my house. We've been here almost 2 years which I know isn't long in fridge years, but we haven't had any problems. It's a good size for us, too. I shop two weeks at a time and have plenty of room. It's one of the ones with two side by side doors.

Samsung is top rated by Consumer Reports.

I just bought a new one and am really happy. I got a $2700 fridge for $1400 by purchasing a scratch and dent off the floor at Lowes. Don't be afraid to talk them down!

I had to act quickly as our fridge died, but you could start stalking now different Lowes and Home Depots! They need to move those quickly are are willing to deal!

Good Luck!

We've had our Frigidaire side by side fridge , stove with convection and 2nd lower over drawer, dishwasher for almost 10 years. We just replaced the DW because the it started leaking water from the door and dh didn't want to spend money to fixed due to age.

We have never had even 1 problem with any of them all this time. We replaced the DW with just a newer model buyt still a frigidaure.

I have a 31 cu ft Samsung, which was the largest you could buy when I purchased it. I bought it from Sears, though. I like it a lot, and we've had great luck with Samsung appliances.

I love my Samsung refrigerator. I got the counter depth one, and it makes my small kitchen feel a little bigger, lol. I also got a side by side, because when I looked into the french door style, the freezer has less sq ft space then the side by side. (I do not have a separate freezer).

Note: I also got a Samsung dishwasher at the same time. It lasted 3 years 2 months, 2 months out of warranty! I had to replace it, which is crazy for a 3 year old appliance. I now have 3 different brand appliances in my kitchen, which concerns me slightly for when I go to sell the house.

May not be possible for you, but we have a regular fridge/freezer in the kitchen, our older fridge/freezer in the basement, and a large chest freezer in the garage. All three are in use all the time.

I can't help on brands. Our fridges are both Kenmore and both 8-10 years old.

Samsung french door. I like that it doesn't have the water/ice outside the door. There is water inside the fridge and ice in the freezer, so you open it up for those things. It looks much more clean with all that inside. Not sure of what our sq footage is, but it's pretty big.

I have to ask - why??? Thats not something that ever occurred to me. And I would imagine a lot of people don't have matching brands. The only reason my fridge and stove match was chance.

OP we bought a Kenmore once. It stopped within days. It took Sears 6 months to replace. I will spare you the saga. While I know a lot of manufacturers make similar items for the various brands, for us it came down to the issues just having the item replaced. Now I buy from a local store that repairs whatever it sells. You sometimes pay a little more but the service is fabulous. Its insurance in my mind because your options around here are not so great for repairmen.

The best thing to do is start researching and look at as many refrigerators as you can. I think Presidents day usually has sales.

I am glad you have had good luck with your sears products. For us it has been a nightmare and the service/repair has been no better. For service I have had to wait upwards of a month and never less than a week. As for the dryer it is the roller and a belt that needs to be replaced. I have had service people in and they always comment on how clean I keep my appliances ie with the washer and dryer I make sure there lint is not building up and nothing gets "trapped" in the washer. When we go to get a replacement We will go to a locally owned store but I am done with Sears burned too many times there and customer service has been poor.

In the old days, sears would modify their branded appliances with proprietary parts. I had a lawn mower that spun the blade the opposite direction so you could only buy replacement blades from them and not the original manufacture. I don't know if they still do that, but it turned me off of their brands a long time ago.

I've had two Samsung refrigerators and had to replace the ice maker in both and a water line in one. Otherwise they have been fine. One had a special small door on the front that allowed access to common items so you didn't have to open the whole door and let the cold air out. I really miss that feature.

I have a Samsung French Door that they just replaced after 1 year as it have circuit problems. Plus my DH doesn't think it keeps sodas cold enough. Even the new one he doesn't think it is cold enough.
