I thought I had dodged a bullet when I had no problems on Friday the 13th! Apparently it was just hiding around the corner waiting to sneak up on me!
We tried delivering DD's Girl Scout Cookies today. A lot of them weren't home. On our way out to dinner we saw a car pulling into the garage at one of the houses we needed to deliver to. We had just passed so I put the van in reverse and was backing up.
CRUNCH! SCRAPE!
I hit their mailbox.
I didn't hit the post, but knocked off the brace and the box. It isn't too badly damaged and he said he thought he could fix it easy with some screws--it came apart where it is attached. I gave them my name and phone number and said if they needed to buy parts to let me know and we would pay for it, and I gave them their cookies. When we got to the restaurant we looked at the damage to my van and it was much worse than the mailbox.
Cracked my taillight, several deep scratches and scrapes and some denting.
We did have a nice dinner and the portions were huge so we boxed it up to take home. Half way home I said "Who brought the food?" DH:
DD
. We left it sitting on the table! I turned around immediately and went back, just in case, but of course they had dumped it. Half a rack of ribs, a huge side of au gratin potatos, and 3/4 of a huge taco salad gone.
In the grand scheme of life it is all no big deal. But man is it a bummer.
