Has anybody else seen it? I don't like that jerky camera filming and I didn't care for the character developement. DH (who loves football) and I (we both love movies) just didn't understand what was so great about this team.

They hung in there after adversity but others have done the same.

I thought the drunk dad made an unusually quick turn-around and I never firgured out what was up with the QB's mom.

We didn't expect a saccharine movie but I thought is was a bit dark.

Wow - really? I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard how great it's supposed to be. DH really wants to see it soon.

We thought it was good, but not great. We didn't go to see it, but when we got to the movie theater, it was the only one not sold out.

I agree with the "what was so special about this team". It seemed to be more about competitive high school football in general than that specific team.

The mom was dying. The QB didn't want to leave her to go to college. Thats all that was going on there.

It helps to have read the book. It gives a much better insight into the importance of HS football in Odessa. To the people there it is practically a religion, and to some it IS a religion. Without that, it's just another HS football movie.

Edited to add... I liked the movie, but agree about the camera work. I also hate that "washed out" look that is becoming more common in movies the past few years.

I didn't get quite get what all the buzz was about too. It didn't translate well to the screen and didn't effectively make it's point, or any point.

At the end of two hours my husband and I just turned to each other and said, "what was the point of that?" It wasn't unpleasant, it just was either waaaaay to subtle for me, or completely unfocused.

Wait for Blockbuster...

Anybody else put it together that the quarter back was the kid in Sling blade

It was good, not great. Predictable in many places, surprising in some. I thought Thornton mailed it in. I was a bit disappointed. Not on par with "Hoosiers" or "Remember the Titans or "The Natural" . Better than "Any Given Sunday" but the football scenes seemed similar to that...i.e. a bit over the top.

Would not make my Top 10 sports movies.
