French Pronunciation Question

For those of you that speak French....is the name Alain pronounced, by English speakers, "Allan"? I don't want to embarrass myself by addressing someone and pronounce their name wrong.

In french, the accent would be on the second syllable and the "n" would be silent. The "ain" has more of an "e" sound as in let. However, the person may use a more english version. I would just ask them.

Al la with a silent n. But you really should just ask.
