French Press or Percolator?

I know a lot of you bring drip coffeemakers, but I'm going to a campsite that doesn't have electric hookups, so I have to look at other options. Which one do you use (if you use one) and what kind do you have? Any tips on using, etc?

I CAN'T go without coffee. Nope. Not and still be 'nice mommy'.

I used a french press while car camping one time. The coffee was good but it used a lot of water and supplies to clean it afterward. If you have a place to clean it I would go that route, if not I would use instant.

I've used both. LOVE French press coffee, but it's a pain to clean and I've yet to find one big enough to make the amount of coffee I need in the a.m.

I'm big on the stove top percolator these days and finally tracked down a large corningware pot. Sadly they don't make them anymore, but you can find them on ebay. I've found they work far better than the typical percolators sold for camping, which don't keep the coffee hot for long and always seem to overflow and make a mess if you don't watch them closely.

Why only these two choices? For probably thirty years, I have always used one of these (melitta coffee filter holder) for making coffee while camping:

For a crowd, I will use a #6 cone and make coffee in a thermos. For just me, I will use a #4 cone and make coffee right into my mug. All you need is boiling water - which DW uses for tea also. These funnels use the same paper filters that you use for a drip maker. When you get your coffee ground, have them grind it 'for melitta' (somewhere between espresso and drip - an espresso grind will clog the filter, a drip grind will let the water pass through too quickly).

I've had some trouble finding the cones in local stores, but here is a place that appears to sell them on-line:

I just saw on a camping supply website that Coleman has a coffee maker you either hook up to a propane canister or it sits on the Coleman campstove. I cant remember now.............I will go look and let you know..........sorry, I am having a blong moment...LOL

I vote for this option, is what I have finally settled on. Just keep a pot of water going for tea or coffee, fresh cup every time. Tried a percolator at first, but found it difficult to get our Coleman enamel one to work just right and ended up waiting about half an hour (not a good thing on a cold morning when I REALLLY need a cup o' joe). They also make a camping one where you put the coffee grounds in a holder at the bottom, has a metal screen that acts like the paper filter. No need to bring the filters.

I do like my Coleman percolator. I pour it into my thermos as soon as I brew it, so I don't worry about it getting cold. I have never used a press
