French Onion Soup

So I'm contemplating where I'd like to eat on my next trip, and I'm posting to see all the places where I might find a good bowl of French Onion Soup ("good" includes plenty of nice gooey cheese on top).

I loved it at Les Chefs when I had lunch there in 2012, liked it (but not quite as much) at BOG lunch. Anyone had it anywhere else, and what did you think of it there?

I think that Boatwright's has a great French onion soup. I thought it was more flavorful than the soup at Be Our Guest.

Shula's Steakhouse at the Dolphin Resort has a very good French onion soup.

I expect I'll be at POFQ again, so Riverside/Boatwright's would be handy.

How "classy" does Shula's feel? I love a good steak, but I'm afraid I'd feel too "dowdy" to eat there - yes, I know people come from the parks, but I'm envisioning people in "designer resort wear." (FWIW, I've felt perfectly fine dining at Artist Point and Flying Fish, if that helps.)

Shula's is kind of anomalous. The clientele are often conventioneers, so you'll see a lot of suits and business casual attire. But the restaurant also has a football theme that I find exceptionally dorky and tryhard. Giant black and white game day photos hang in massive, nonsensically ornate gold frames. The menu is printed on a football. You really can't stress formality in a setting like that, even though the guests generally are on the dressy side. They also serve the full menu in the lounge, though, if you would be more comfortable there.

If you're comfortable at the Flying Fish Café and Artist Point you'll be fine at Shula's. It's a must do for my boyfriend and me each visit. And yes, their French onion soup is to die for!

The FO soup at BOG is made with true onions, not with beef stock or beef boullion to make you think you're getting flavor. In fact it's vegetarian, which is lovely.

Well this explains why I thought my soup was so bland; it was a vegetarian version. Traditional FO soup is prepared with beef stock, and is very flavorful. As a fan of the late Julia Child's famous FO soup , I'm not surprised that I would not enjoy BOG's departure from the authentic recipe. What can I say but," bon appetit"

I love French onion soup, the traditional kind with beef stock. I was SHOCKED to find out that the BOG soup was vegetarian because it was SO GOOD!! And plenty of gooey cheese....

We were there in July and also found the broth to be flavorless. My family adores French Onion soup and none of us finished ours at BOG.

This was our experience too! We were there in February so they must have had more than 1 off night.

Shula's is also a chain restaurant, so that removed some of the upscale exclusivity of it in our opinion.

My DH and I love the french onion soup at T Rex. We tried it a couple of years ago but I think that the bread in it was kind of like a garlic bread with cheese on it...so good!
