I'm wanting to try something different when we go to DL and I noticed on the menu French market has beef stew a bread bowl and a French dip sandwich. They both sound good but I wanted to get some opinions from people who have tried them before. How is the beef stew? Is it somewhat like a homemade beef stew or not so great with fatty meat? Also, is it spicy? And the French dip is the meat fatty, tender and is it rare or more like well done? I can't eat rare or fatty meats or spicy foods as I won't feel so well after eating it. I just wanted to check as I saw the sandwich comes with spicy chips and a horseradish sauce which I don't have to eat but now am wondering if the other stuff is spicy etc. I appreciate any and all responses from others who have tried these before.

I always get the Cajun Meatloaf and my wife always gets the Jambalaya. Both are fantastic! I don't think you can go wrong with anything there. It's one of my favorite places to eat at DL

I've had the French Dip. The meat is definitely well done but it's really tender. It's almost like pot roast consistency. It's pretty lean and has a good flavor.

The horseradish sauce is really very mild. It's like a horseradish mayo. You can get it on the side and just use a little for extra flavor.

The chips are not spicy at all. They basically have some seasoning that is kind of like Lawry's season salt. The au jus is salty but not spicy or anything.

Thank you for your response. That sounds really tasty. I love pot roast and lawrys! I'm definitely going to try this for sure.:thumbsup2

I second the review on the French dip, it's very good. There is a video on YouTube reviewing it.

Another vote for the French Dip. If your eating with kids they have great choices for them too. It's one of our favorite places to eat.

I've also had both and enjoyed them. I didn't think either had really fatty meat and both had meet that well-done (i.e, brown center). The Beef Stew has really good flavor and isn't at all spicy, but I did think there wasn't a lot of stew in the bowl. That seems like a typical problem with bread bowls to me (too much bread, too little filling).

In terms of the chips, I found them to have a bit of bite, but it varied considerably from chip-to-chip. It probably depended on how much of the seasoning the chip had on it, so if you're worried about the spice-level, look for ones that have less seasoning on them.

That video mentioned that the French Dip is only available at lunch. That is not true. It it is also available at dinner. It's currently $13.99. Just wanted to mention those things.

And now I totally want one! Maybe I'll run over for lunch!

Thank you all for your input. I told DD about it and she wants to go here and try out the food. We're also interested in the Turkey dip sandwich and the Roast Beef and cheddar sandwich at Flo's V8 Cafe in CDL. :thanks:

I like the Beef and Cheddar at Flo's. It's messy but good. Try and get there just before sunset, sit out by the gas pumps and watch the lighting ceremony. You'll love it.

My hubby had the beef stew bowl in January and he loved it. I took a bite of it and i thought it was really great. The piece of meat i had wasn't fatty at all and it wasn't at all spicy. (I don't do fatty meat or spicy either, personal preference.) I can't comment on the french dip. I had the half chicken plate and it was really good, it was also a ton of food for only like 15 bucks. So i do recommend the chicken plate if someone is wanting chicken. :)

Thanks for your input. I've already got DD20 on board to going here too. We're looking forward to it!

My younger son orders the French dip most times that we visit the French Market. He gets it without the horseradish. I have ordered it that way a couple of times and really enjoyed it. The chips are good too and unlike the other potato offerings around the park. It's true that they used to serve that sandwich only for lunch, but it has been available for both lunch and dinner for some time now. My older son likes the beef stew bowl but has also commented that there isn't really enough stew in the bowl even though he loves the bread. Older son's other favorite there is the cajun meatloaf. I usually order the chicken plate, and it is plenty of (very tasty) food. My husband likes pretty much everything there so rotates his choice.
