Freezing water bottle question

23 days and counting!!! This may seem kinda silly. Can you freeze a full water bottle? If not, how much can you leave in the bottle when you freeze it? Thanks!!

Water expands when it freezes. If you fill the bottle, either the cap will "blow" off or the bottle will burst. I'd advise you to fill it a little more than 3/4 full. I usually add water after I take it out of the freezer so I have something cold to sip on right away. Sometimes it takes a while to start melting. Enjoy your trip!

I guess some plastics freeze better than others, so if you are considering that option buy yourself a good drinking bottle. You can find some good brands at LLBean, EMS or other outdoor equipment stores. Nalgene is a brand that comes to mind. I tried the cheapest that LLbean has, but it was no better than a souvenir-plastic kind.

Those thinner bottles won't last long if you intend to freeze them daily. But every time I did it in Florida and left the hotel by 8:00 AM, by 10:30 AM we had nice ice water and were ready to refill, so it won't take long on a hot day to melt that ice.

One thing to remember... don't freeze a Brita bottle.
Actually, I think it would be okay to freeze the bottle.... just not the filter.

We freeze Evian water all the time straight from the store - we have never had a problem with the top coming off or the bottle splitting.

Liz, they'll be OK a time or two but if you plan to do it daily for many days, they won't last.

Believe me, during our last trip we spend $3 in a bottle of Powerade and thought about just washing it and reusing it to save. After a few days, the thin plastic was so bent and cracked by the ice that it leaked.

LLBean is selling two of those good Nalgene bottles now for $16.50. They are nice size bottles too, 1 liter each. I am buying those for our new trip. They freeze and thaw wery well and even the cap is made of a sturdy plastic. With their unbeatable lifetime warranty, those bottles should last you forever.

Target has these new sports bottles that have a removable top that has an inner freezable core. You place the top/core in the freezer, fill the bottle w/ liquid then attach the frozen top/core. They had them in bright summer colors and in all different sizes. Some small for kids, medium, and large size. Prices ranged from .99-3.99. I bought a few but have not used them yet, so I don't know how long the freeze lasts.

Ahh no we use ours one time only - meaning we do not empty then refill with other water. So I do not have experience in reusing Evian bottles - however if you bring the water frozen, drink it and then throw away your container my experience shows no problems in freezing the container.

We also brought water from store at home to WDW, froze a new bottle each day, and had no problem. As a matter of fact, I have two bottles frozen in my fridge right now that I froze for a weekend trip - they haven't thawed out yet!

This may be a silly question, but where do you freeze any bottle if your staying at the hotel. We won't have a freezer, so how do we do it? Thanks all. Gina

You can't freeze it if you're staying in a hotel without a a refrigerator. You can rent one, but they're too expensive to be worth it at the Disney resorts.

We just chill our water bottles in the cooler (you can use the ice bucket if you don't have one with you) and take it into the parks like that. I really don't mind my water being luke warm like I would if it were a soft drink or something.

We drive so we bring ours all ready frozen lining our cooler then take them out each day.

We bought 6 1litre bottles (can you tell I'm Canadian?!?)

We got them at the grocery store. They were not Evian but the same type of bottle.

We froze them each night in the freezer of our hotel room. The fridge was included. We would bring 4 per day with us. One for the morning for each of us and one each for the afternoon.
We would refill them at night with a Brita water filter jug that we brought from home. We did this for 17 days and the bottles held up fine. Actually we are still using 2 of them.

They are stronger than you think.

Hope this helps
