We had set the alarm early to make sure we were in the park for opening at 10. Best laid plans and all that
when I woke up I felt awful, and couldn't rush about getting ready. In the end we made it to the park for midday, via a trip to the pharmacy to stock up on some paracetemol. Luckily we had had a Lemsip with us and once that kicked in I was feeling a lot better.
Saturday was our day of firsts-even though we spent 3 days at the park in August, there was so much we hadn't done then that we finally did for the first time today!
When we went in August, the girls had desperately wanted to go on the Railroad Train, but we hadn't got round to it as the queues were always huge. So we decided to make it our first ride of the day. To see their little faces when they finally got on there was magic
. After a lovely, albeit chilly, ride around the park, we arrived back at Main Street Station.
Winnie the Pooh was out on a meet and greet, so we queued for him, and the girls were thrilled to meet him
As a bonus just after they had met him the Disney Character Express arrived. Excitement all round.
Another first was the dragon in the castle, we had missed it last time. DD2 was very frightened by it lol and it took me ages to convince her that dragons don't really exist!
Next we headed to Frontierland-DH was determined to steer us away from Fantasyland as he knew we would want to spend all day there otherwise! Our next first was a cruise on the Molly Brown. That was one of the coldest points of the day, the lake was partially forzen, but it was nonetheless enjoyable. DH and DD1 started checking out BTM from the boat, and DD1 decided she fancied going on it. Now I am a total coaster chicken
but DH loves stuff like that. I always feel slightly guilty that he doesn't have anyone to do the rides with and he won't do them on his own as he says the fun of it is going on them together. So we were both happy that DD1 wanted to go on it.
A quick check of the queue showed waiting times of 80 mins
and no fastpasses left, so we planned it into the next day's schedule. In the meantime to warm up we got a counter meal and hot chocs all round at the Fuente del Oro. The DLRP hot chocs are soooo scrummy! Here's Alicia enjoying hers!
DH couldn't keep us away from Fanatsyland any longer, so we wandered over there and he took the girls on the Carousel while I pottered around a couple of shops. Then onto the Teacups, before we made our way to the start of the parade. At least we had thought it was the start, near to Belle Notte where it had started in August. This time it was the end, so we missed the princesses dancing infront of us which we had been lucky enough to see in the summer. However the floats were very close to us, Cinderella waved to DDs to their delight and Pluto patted Louise's head!
The plan had been to go on IASW as soon as the floats went past, but being at the end we were caught up in a huge crush trying to move away and IASW was far too busy for us to queue for (can you spot the theme by now-we are an impatient bunch
)
After reading on here how good Mickey's Winter Wonderland was, we made our way over to the Chapperel Theatre. We were a few minutes late and people were queuing to get in, we actually joined this queue! It was crazy though as one family got into the theatre, but just stood on the steps instead of moving into seats. The rest of us were still queued behind them for a couple of minutes until we realised what was going on
Anyhow we loved the show, so thanks to everyone who recommended it.
Doesn't it look magical!
The girls spotted Father Christmas's cabin and raced over to it. As luck would have it Woody turned up. There were only a couple of other children around, so they got his autograph and had a picture with him without the usual scrum which was great
(shame about the devil eyes lol)
We also managed to collar another guest to take a picture of us all which I really like
The lights around there were beautiful
We walked through the Aladdin 'tunnel' display which we all appreciated, not least because it was so warm in there. From there we managed to get onto IASW, always a favourite, and then we headed into Discoveryland. The girls wanted a go on Star Tours, but I am ashamed to say after going on it in August (after being told by a CM that it was a very gentle ride
) I was not going back on it!! As we went to check out queue times (25 mins), a guy came over and offered us his fastpasses because his los were too tired and they had decided against going on it. Again I pottered around a few shops whilst they went on, and also checked out some of the rides as we had hardly been in Discoveryland last time.
DD2 decided she now hated Star Tours, but DH and DD1 loved it. We jumped onto Orbitron as there was only a tiny queue-once I sat in the rocket I wondered if I would be able to get back out of it
That was it for Discoveryland as things were closing up, or the queues were too long, and we were getting hungry.
We had quite liked the look of Colonel Hathi's Pizza Outpost, so headed towards it, passing BTM which miraculously only had a wait time of 5 mins
. So DH and DD1 jumped straight into the queue. They enjoyed it, though we couldn't persuade DD1 to get back on it again for the rest of the trip
Tired and cold by this point, with Colonel Hathi's shut, we decided to make our way out of the park and eat in the village. DH and I had already conferred and decided to leave Fantillusion until the next evening as DD2 was very tired. However she clocked on that it was nearly time for it, and cried and begged us to let her watch it
Feeling guilty we wanted to stick to our guns, but as we made our way through the mall, we heard the music and found ourselves right at the very start of it
. So we of course had to watch it and it was beautiful, I'm so pleased we did. The castle lit up looked amazing, infact whenever DD2 started moaning she was tired or cold, I kept distracting her by pointing it out
It really was time to leave the park now, and as it had been such a long day, and DH was also starting to feel a bit unwell, we returned to McDonalds in Bussy St Georges for another gourmet evening meal
.Irony is at home we never eat there, yet there we were second night running....
Back to the hotel and we all collapsed exhausted into bed-have to say the magic of Disney
had really helped me to feel a whole lot better and ready for our next day's adventures.....
