Hello, Everyone just working on my food budget for my Dec trip and was wondering if the OKW studios had a freezer in the MINI fridge - so we can eat some frozen dinners or breakfasts to save time and money.. Thanks Michelle

There is a freezer, but it's almost too small to be worth mentioning. It runs the width of mini fridge, and is about 3-4 inches in height.

We were able to fit a small frozen pizza and the ice cube tray, and have a little bit of space to spare. Maybe you should consider dry cereal and pop tarts. ;)

Good question, bigsis! I'd like to know the same thing.

Along the same lines, is the mini-frig big enough to hold a gallon of milk and a gallon of juice along with other odds and ends? Or will we need to stick to half gallon size cartons?

that is what i thought. is it true that the fridge part is fairly larger - like for a gal of water, 1/2 gal of milk, some sand meat and fruit ? Michelle

Yes - it's the size of a dorm fridge, and you know how much beer those college kids can fit in one of those. ;) It has quite a bit of space inside (2 pretty deep shelves) and the door itself will hold a few half gallon containers.

The fridge was more spacious than I expected, but you may need to be creative about the space. The door was able to handle much more than I expected. The freezer compartment, as others have said, is not really worth mentioning.

We had enough room in the freezer for the ice cube trays and three water bottles (which are great to take to the parks in the summer time). I do remember that the refrigerator took about 24 hours to chill the soda and juice. I'm sure it was because we had initially put a lot of food and drink in there.

I would be careful about putting things in the freezer and ruining them. For example, it wouldn't keep a pint of ice cream frozen (B&J gone to soup!) The fridge itself holds quite a bit.

I think we will just work with the fridge and should be fine. i saw some pictures of the studio kitchenette area, it showed a toaster - is this standard cause we can eat toast Pb sandwicheds or bagels for supper . and it also showed a coffe pot - does anyone know if its a 4 cup or a 12 cup? thanks again Michelle

Toasters are now standard in all the DVC studios. The coffee maker in June was a 4 cup, but I believe I've read on these boards that people have requested larger ones when needed.

Also recently added were corkscrews and can openers - two *very* important items, IMHO. Especially the former. ;)

Bigsis1970 - I read "Pb sandwich" and thought LEAD sandwich? I've been doing too much Industrial Hygiene lately.

yes i feed my children LEAD all the time - it makes for good traction up here ( in Maine ) during the winter time .. LOL :p

A 4-cup is perfect and can opener- we will have to get some soups too i guess and make toasted cheese sandwiches.

thanks again Michelle

We rented out a studio for a few days in the spring. Since you have the toaster how about english muffins and the Thomas brand of non freezer waffles? Haven't tried them but i will this time around. They do provide some bowls but i also bring spare things from home. Don't forget to pack plastic wrap for cooking or storing. If you are going soon so much fresh fruit is available to whip up a fruit salad or just slice it up. We made soup out of the can, hot dogs , mac and cheese. Also grilled cheese using the toaster and micro for melting. I'm pretty good at trying to save some money since we have four children although only 2 travel with us now.

those are Great Ideas Karyn !! we don't go till Dec so won't be much out for fruit except FLA Oranges .. LOL.. Michelle

Yes , i see that your trip is in December. Oranges , grapefruit and apples will be is season at that time. Good luck with your trip planning.

Freezer was small but we were happy that they did put toasters in the studios. We have bagles for breakfast along with our cereal etc. We did get extra paper dishes and silverware.

Happy Park Hopping

here is my one piece of advice watch your feet when you open the door of the fridge ouch hit them a couple of times LOL
