Freedom to Marry Day Protest Planned

Our govenment is controlled by voters (either directly or usually through representatives) who have equal say -- whether their their voting choices are God-based or not.

But we put thing in place here to make sure people like you don't dsicriminate by public vote. The civil rights act is a good example, and thankfully things like that cannot be given to people like ytou to vote on.

As I asked before, do you want America run like the countries in the Middle East?

I meant exactly what I said.

Lifestyle choices made that our contrary to God's Word are self-inflicted wounds. However, thru God's love, grace and strength anyone can overcome bad choices.

Put the book down and stop hiding behind it. What is your personal opinion?

Jesus was speaking against divorce in that bit. Maybe he'd be okay with gays divorcing, but not heteros?

So tell me why do some Christian churches allow divorce?

I'm aware of the context. However, Jesus was quoting the Father re: the first marriage.

Jesus said Moses gave the people divorce because they were hard-headed. It's not pleasing to the Father.

In our church, divorcees are not allowed to serve in leadership positions unless it was a case of infidelity on the part of the spouse (as designated in Scripture). It's rare that it's allowed. An openly gay member would be treated the same way. Come worship & fellowship with us, but don't expect a leadership role.

Andy, Joe had made it abundantly clear that he knows for certain it's a choice because it's choice he made himself back in the day. He speaks from experience. If it works for him, so be it.

Strange, so its still possible that I will wake up one day and say ' this week I think I will be attracted to my own sex as I think I want to listen to Judy Garland and Abba':rotfl: (Cliches I know but you get the idea)sp

Two completely separate issues.

The fight for racial equality and society-blessed homosexual lifestyles are independent.

Not exactly, since religion/Bibilical teachings were used by the majority to justify the lack of equality for both groups.
I'm sure the polygamist will be re-newing their efforts soon.

But speaking of separate issues :sad2:

So, the shaving of beards and eating of seafood -- also abominations if I recall correctly -- are lifestyle choices that should also be condemned and not given shelter under the laws of the land?

Joe, with all the posts I may have missed your response to my question. What makes them completely separate issues?

Speaking of the Bible....

Leviticus 25
44 " 'Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.'

Does this mean God wants me to buy slaves from Canada and Mexico? :rolleyes1

Canada is closer for me.

Good. I guess we can help each other.

I honestly don't need your help little dude. I'm have been in a committed, consensual, respectful and respected, happy, deeply loving relationship for more than 16 years. I know the love Joe and I have for each other brings a smile to God's face because He would want everyone to experience true love in it's purest form. I have quite a few friends that I care about and who care about me. My family loves both Joe and I and we love them in return.

In a practical sense, we're doing very well financially with a strong savings history, a warm home with plenty of food in the fridge, freezer and pantry. Joe and I have clothes to keep us comfortable in the cold. We can afford more than one vacation a year. In terms of our income, we both get paid quite well while being passionate in our careers. He teaches and is able to work with and help shape our future generations. I work with volunteers who desparately want to bring some assistance into the lives of homeless men and women, most of whom have a mental illness or chemical addiction problems.

Emotionally, both Joe and I are happy. Nothing more, nothing less. We don't live our lives with hatred in our hearts. We don't wish ill will on others simply because their lives don't mesh well with ours. We would NEVER in a million years ever even dream of using the Word of God to deny people common decency, let alone basic human rights.

So I truly don't need your help little dude. In fact, I don't know anyone that really does.

Amen!

I have a serious question for those who feel gays shouldn't marry because the bible says so, how do you pick and choose which parts of the bible to take to heart? I mean, there are all sorts of passages about slaves obeying their masters, wives obeying their husbands, there is even a verse that says women shouldn't wear gold jewelry or braid their hair.

Could it be, maybe, some of you just find the passages that back up your strongest personal beliefs?

Who said that marriage is between a man and a woman? The bible? Well not everyone lives their life according to a book, especially one that is open to interpretation. Why is it that people have a problem with two people of the same sex loving each other? Why is that wrong? And it's so right that Britney Spears can get married and 60 hours later decide that it wasn't for her and then goes ahead and married someone else. That sends a great message to our children doesn't it!!!! Why should anyone have the right to tell a couple that love each other that they can't get married because they are of the same sex? Why are we teaching our children to hate or that loving is wrong? We protest to stop violence, but what a message it is to send to our children that certain people shouldn't and don't have the right to love each other . My daughters are 5 and 6 and DH and I teach them to love everyone. Thank God I live in MA where we are free to marry whomever we want. My daughters can grow up and marry a man OR a woman if they want. Love is not wrong. They know that a family can be a mom and a dad(like us), or two moms, two dads, grandparents, etc. Whoever you love is ok with us.
Aren't there bigger issues in this world than trying to stop people who love each other from getting married. We have 18 year old kids dying in a senseless war. There are loved ones that will never make it home from Iraq and yet all people seem to be consumed with is trying to stop same sex couples from getting married.
Nice priorities!!!

There are just so many bigger issues that trying to fight against love.
