Free wi-fi

I have been incredibly lax planning this latest trip to Disney. My sister and I went out to dinner last night to discuss some of the last minute details, and I told her that Disney doesn't offer free wi-fi like the rest of the world.

Lo and behold, she sends me an email - with no link to verify, but sounds Disneyesque - with the following info:

Disney Hotels

Most Disney hotels now have FREE Wi-Fi (wireless Internet access) in various public areas, such as the lobby, bus stops and main pool deck. In addition, Disney now offers FREE Wi-Fi in guest rooms at select resort hotels:
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Beach Club Resort
BoardWalk Resort
Contemporary Resort
Coronado Springs Resort
Grand Floridian Resort
Old Key West Resort
Polynesian Resort
Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
Wilderness Lodge Resort
Yacht Club Resort

The wired access in the hotels listed above has been discontinued.

Apparently there will eventually be Wi-Fi in the remaining hotels, but a timeline for this has not yet been published. All of Disney's other resorts have wired high-speed Internet in all guest rooms. There is a charge of $9.95 per 24 hour period for the wired access.

I'm too lazy this am to check it out myself, just wondered if anyone could verify this. Since we're staying at the CSR, this is great!!

I don't think it's true that wired is gone - at least not at this point. I have seen recent reports (this week) of people continuing to use the wireless with their own wireless router because the WiFi signal wasn't strong enough for whatever they were doing.

It has also been rolled out to at least some of the mods since that list was published - someone said it was at POR in the past few weeks.

I've been at BWV twice since the free wifi, and I have had a very strong signal both time. I am able to stream my church service on Sunday, watch tv shows I'm missing at home, and do just about anything I would normally do. There are some sites that are blocked, according to threads I've read, but I haven't come across any personally yet.

They don't keep the wires in the closet like they used to, so if they still offer wired access, you must have to ask for the cord (or bring your own).

All the moderates (not just CSR) were activated for free wifi last month. The only resorts that don't have it now are the Values. Seen reports from guests at both POFQ and POR noting that both now have free wi-fi.

I've seen reports of two sites that were blocked - a comedy site about autocorrect on Iphones sending the wrong words in messages, and a Japanese anime site. Both were apparently blocked for what Disney or whoever is in charge of the filter considers inappropriate content.
