I keep reading that people that recently bought into SSR received free Disney vacations. We just purchased into SSR last Tuesday 8/24 and weren't offered this free vacation, so I have a couple of questions.

How long has this offer been in effect?

What does the free vacation consist of? (i.e. length, time period it can be taken, is airfare included, is park tix included.)

We just want to make sure we're getting everything we should be receiving.

Thanks in advance.

Here is the deal: If you purchase SSR right now you get a choice of two options. Since SSR is only selling Phase II to new members there are no points currently available to sell, only 2005 points. You can pay $95 per point and receive your points as usual in 2005. You'll also receive an equal number of "developer points" to be used by September 2005, at any resort other than SSR. Or you can forgo those developer points and receive a $10 per point discount. There is an incentive available to current members wanting to add-on at SSR. It is not available to new members. That incentive is for current DVC members who add on 130 points or more get to choose between 2 adult AP's or a one week exchange through Interval International.

That is correct! I just purchased this week, and I took the vacation option since I had two more trips planned already. I bought 150 points, which will not be available until March, since that is when construction will be complete. To make up for the wait, you receive 150 (or equivalent to what you bought) "Developer's Points." The only "catch" is that you have to use them by next September (1 year), and you kind of have to take what's left over since most members have made reservations already-- I had some trouble getting the dates I needed in October.

There was an alternative incentive, where you get $10 per point off, bringing the price down to $85 per point. This was because I was already in Florida, and a lot of families only can vacation once a year, making the vacation incentive useless to them. For me, it was worth it to take the vacation option because I would have spent more than $1500 on hotel anyways! I'm not sure if this incentive would be available if you were not already on a trip, but I know they are advertising the vacation incentive on the website.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to get one of the incentives since you already bought, but if I were you, I'd contact your guide and see. At the very least, you are still in the 16 day backout period-- you can always backout and then repurchase with an incentive!

When we bought into SSR last week we were not told of this vacation option, so we received the pts at $85.00 apiece.

Thanks for the info.

You may want to call your guide, I don't know if you could get through right now with Francis & all, but I think you have so many days to change your mind. If you're interested in the developers points, maybe they could redo a contract for you.

I noticed from your countdown that you just returned from WDW. Could it be that your Guide asked you how soon you had planned to return? The points granted for the "free vacation" need to be used by 9/30/05.

As others said, the current promotion is a choice of EITHER $10 off per point (which you DID receive) or the free set of "Developer's Points" which represent the "free vacation."

Since you're still within your 14-day cancellation period, you could always call DVC and ask to change your incentive. Just be aware that your base price per point is going to rise from $85 to $95 if you do so. Also the Developer's Points must be used before 9/30/05 (subject to availability), and DVC does not pay for airfare, park tickets, meals, etc. Just the room.
