I think I remember reading a post about asking for free upgrade? Is this true? Who and When do you need ask?

TIA

just ask the CM at check-in....you are not guaranteed to receive an upgrade, but, it doesn't hurt anything to ask....

Sorry to get so technical, but I have never tried this. How do you word it? Do you say, Is it possible for us to please get a free upgrade? Or do they just assume you are not inquiring about a paid one? :wave2:

I would just say, "Is there any chance of us getting a complimentary upgrade today"?

..anything special about your stay: ie: a birthday, an anniversary, the first time at a particular hotel. I have never asked but have gotten an upgrade frequently particularly if it is less busy. Two years ago I was upgraded to a savannah view when I mentioned that we were celebrating my daughter's college graduation (AKL) and this year I think I got an upgrade when we paid for a standard room and got a lovely lagoon/castle view at GF.

We are going to AKL in June for our 3rd anniversary. We have a standard reserved but I'm hoping for an upgrade. Should I call ahead of time and have them note the anniversary on the ressie??

I did it after staying 1 night last year, I went down stairs and said I wasnt really happy with my room do you have something better and if so what is the cost to upgrade. I got a courtyard view and there was no charge, cause they had plenty of rooms and none were booked for the week I was there. So I guess if they have something available they will hook you up.

We had a standard room booked at the Yacht Club last November. We never asked for an upgrade. They still upgraded us to lake view (and we had 3 rooms total). I believe it is a little bit luck and whom you are dealing with at checkin.

We have booked garden view @ Poly in Oct. for our 10 yr. anniv., it's noted on our ressie that we're celebrating 10 yrs., do y'all think there's a chance for an upgrade? I would love a lagoon view, but DH didn't want to pay the difference. We'll be happy either way though.

So many people go to WDW to celebrate special occasions. If you go with the attitude that an upgrade is unexpected and it happens it is magical. If it is a busy time of the years free upgrades are rare.

To expect a free upgrade and not receive one could ruin a vacation.

We have visited Disney several times during special occasions - our 10th anniversary at the Polynesian (booked Lagoonview - got Lagoonview); nothing special done. Recently, stayed at the Polynesian for our son's third birthday and booked gardenview (nothing special done). Both of these were noted on the reservations and except for a happy anniversary or happy birthday, nothing done. We also did not expect anything so therefore were not disappointed. I would recommend booking the room you are happy with. We did stay part of our 10th anniversary at the BWI Concierge (they had a lovely floral arrangement in our room - sorry to say I didn't really enjoy our stay because I came down with the flu third day of trip.) My husband did a lot of touring on his own.

I am not expecting anything as far as upgrades go, we are thrilled to be staying @ the Poly. Will we ask about an upgrade? Sure, if we get an upgrade - great. If not - great. I'm not going to let a view ruin my trip. Last year we stayed @ BCV, requested Epcot view - didn't get it, in fact had a view that I didn't care for at all, did it ruin my trip - nope. I'm just saying that it would be nice to get one, but not expecting it.

That's good. Keep in mind that the lagoon view rooms are often all booked and free upgrades there are fairly rare. :D
