Last night I tried to download a free font and I thought it was from the legit site I've downloaded from in the past but before I realized it, it was too late - I didn't get my font and instead downloaded some junk. I've deleted everything that I can find but there is still some spyware (I believe that is what it is) hanging around... I ran my virus protection last night while I was sleeping. My computer re-started so I'm not sure if it found any of it but it says my computer is fine. The "stuff" that is still lingering is it keeps changing my homepage to some weird game and then weird things pop up like for shopping and things. My BFF's hubby usually fixes my computer issues and the last time something bad got my computer he downloaded some free program that found all the spyware and got rid of it, but I can't remember what it's called.

There is a popular free program called Spybot. I don't recall the website where you can download it but you could find it with Google.

You run it manually periodically to get rid of spyware. It, like most other spyware packages including very expensive ones, is not foolproof.

I've used both Spybot and Malwarebytes. It's been a while, but I think I had better results with Malwarebytes the few times I've had to clean up a real emergency.

Malwarebytes is awesome! It works really well. We use the free version of that along with the free AVG.

Spybot Search and Destroy is the entire name of the software. Malwarebytes as has been said and Superantispyware are the 2 others that everyone should have. With these three programs, you can get rid of just about anything and everything. I don't run any antivirus on my computer because it's too old. If I happen to get infected, which happened often with my wife looking at the Celebrity sites, I just reboot in safemode and run these three programs. I've never had them fail to get rid of anything.

Your browser has been hijacked. You have to go into your settings and change them even if you are running anti-virus software and getting rid of the malware. Just changing the settings may not work, you may have to physically go into something and delete things. I have no idea what anything is called, but it is pretty easy to do. Just google the site name with "hijack" after it and you will find instructions. I just had to do it with my kid's computer and I'm not at all computer savy :)

Just google the site name with "hijack" after it and you will find instructions. what do you mean. I have been having this problem for two days and it is driving me crazy. I ran Malwarebytes but it didn't help. Help please.

When you open up your browser (Chrome, IE, Forefox) it brings you to a site that isn't what you had it set for right? Google the name of that site with the word hijack and you should find instructions on how to change it back to your original home page. Hope that helps :goodvibes

As an earlier poster said, to be absolutely sure you need to do more than run the programs...

But having said that, I realize that most people would not know what to look for, so IF YOU RAN Malwarebytes.

AND AdwCleaner, you are probably likely to be "clean."

No program gets them all, but between your "native" anti-virus program, Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner, you should be good to go.

Download AdwCleaner at:
http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner

Do NOT download it from other sites such as CNET. The above link is direct from the developer in France.

BTW, I would suggest everyone who reads this download and run AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes.

Spybot...well, read the comments made this month (March) by the USERS Hank and Tom.Piper on the CNET Board:
