If you're staying onsite in a disney resort, do you get a free refillable mug or do you need to purchase them?

no it's not free unless included in a dining plan. Otherwise you pay for it.

So if I'm on the regular dining plan I could get it? Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Does not look like it is included in the regular plan just the quick service plan and the deluxe one.

Depending on your resort and location there it might not be worth it. We found at OKW that we were a bit of a walk to the refill station so hardly used it. When we were at POFQ we used it a lot as we were close enough to the refill station.

It will be a credit on your KTtW card so you can just go and collect it from the CS restaurant.

Yes we got it free last year, is great if your planning in staying at hotel loads but all meals came with a drink so we found our selves with lots of spare bottles of drinks

ooh it used to just be on the quick service plan, that's good news :-)

Ah ok in the brochure online it's only mentioned in the quick and delux plan

We had it last year and it was great we eating at our resort we would grab a bottle of water for the parks that day and drink from the mug when eating, to get the mug you just go to a till at the counter service at your resort and ask for the mug, it works just like a snack credit on your key

Sorry can some one just cover the basics for me here ?

We have no dining plan. AOA 14 days 2 adults 2 kids.

So we buy the mug, then we get to refill it for free, where ?

Only in resort restaurant ?
In resort and in all parks ?

If its only in resort restaurant then I won't bother because I don't think we'll be in the resort restaurant that much. Be eating in parks, I drive, or will have plenty if drink in room from maybe Walmart.

it's just in your resort, so in your case the food court at AoA

You can use it at any of the wdw resort hotels but not in the parks. I went to AOA last night and it is a lovely resort

You can only use it in your resort. I use it for tea in the morning and at night before bedtime. I don't always get one, but, when I do, I find it to be very useful. Sometimes, I get a scoop of ice-cream and have a float for dessert. I bring a carabiner, drink my tea on the way to the park, rinse the cup when I get to the park, hook it to the carabiner, and then fill it on the way back to my room when I'm back at the resort. That way, I don't have to do a lot of back and forth walking to get the cup filled.

You buy the mug from your resorts CS restaurant and they are about $15 each. Technically they are only good for your length of stay at your own resort. However all resorts have the same mug but you then have to carry it with you.

We never buy them now as you can get a lot of drink from a supermarket for the price of one mug (Publix had coke large bottles on 2 for $3 last week for example)

we are naughty too..we carry ours with us all the time as we tend to visit other resorts quite frequently..ie if we are in MK we might go to the Poly or comtemp for lunch etc..then when we get back to our resort in the evening we have it with us and don't have to go back to the room to get it. Even the cast member at our resort told us that we could use them at any resort so we did, I knew she was wrong.:confused3

I think they are well worth the money if you don't have FD, we certainly get our money's worth over 2 or 3 weeks.:)
You will notice that A LOT of guests are using mugs from years ago and are never stopped.

They won't stop you however it does say on the sign that is by them when you buy them the rules. As they are the same design there is no way of knowing where they bought so that's why they let it go.

I am betting in future it will be linked to the magic bands and the machines will be controlled like the ones at the water parks.

I personally can not be bothered to carry a mug with me - we generally eat in the parks or back in the room.

We used to buy them every trip and I have a cupboard full of CSR ones but now we just buy bottles of soda and we do save money. Last trip was 8 nights - ate at a resort CS twice! Yes I would have filled them more than that had we not had drinks in the room however we had 3 bottles of coke costing $6 and some bottled water, milk and chocolate milk and it all cost less than 1 mug ;)
