Hi Everyone

I have been doing quite a bit of reading about DVC and have read that when DVC originally started up, park passes were included for free.

Was this part of your initial contract for all those who had this or was it an extra. What I am really curious about is how they discontinued it????

Did they just tell everyone that effective on a specific date, passes would no longer be included? I can't imagine signing up thinking that passes were included only to find out that they can take them away.

Just an FYI, if Disney was still offering the free passes with purchasing DVC, this would be something we definately would take advantage of.

The only problem I can see with joining DVC is that not only will we have to spend $$$ to get to Disney from Canada but when we arrive if we buy an AP, with the exchange rate we are over $1000.00 per year not to mention food and incidentials and possibly a car rental.

If the passes were included, this sure would make our decsion a heck of a lot easier.

Sorry...The days of included passes are gone! Original Old Key West DVC members had them for the first few years (10 years I think). They were part of the contract for those who initally signed up in the early 90's.
Maybe you can bring some prescription medications from Canada down to Florida with you and pay for passes that way! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The Theme Park Admission program was included in the POS (Public Offering Statement) as a part of the purchase contract. It was clearly stated that these passes would not be available after December 31, 1999 and the program was available to those who purchased at OKW and VB until some time in 1995 (or '96) and was not available for purchases at ay other resorts. Resale purchases of those contracts also included the free passes. It was never a member's perk that was later "taken away" as the end date was clearly and prominently noted in the purchase documents.

Those who purchased after this program was discontinued still got a 10% discount on Ultimate Park Hopper (UPH) passes and this "perk" continued until this year when the UPH discount was discontinued in favor of the DVC discount on AP and PAP.

Enjoy!

The passes were included in the contract up till Dec 31st 1999 then the perk stopped it was told to all DVC members that bought way back when. we travel to WDW from Canada every year and don't find it at all taxing even with our 3 kids in tow. We like the fact that we have pre paid our accomodations for a long time to come and we never use AP's and visit for atleast 12-14 days a year.

Thanks for the great info.

I am sure glad to know that this was part of the original purchasers agreement and not something that was just discontinued.

What do you buy for passes? Just curious what works out best for your family?

Thanks everyone

We would have made the purchase with or without the free park passes!! But when we were told that this was part of the deal, :cool1: we said bring on the contract!! It was great while it lasted!

When it was the Hopper plus pass we would just buy 7 day hoppers pluses and go to the parks for 7 days and then do waterparks for the pluses. We now get the MYW 10 day pass with the pluses and that is the only add on we get to them. We don't add hte non expiry as we use all 10 days so it is of no use to us and it is cheaper than the 7 day hopper plus used to be. We don't do AP's because we only do one trip a year with this year being the acception mind you and we always go the same time never earlier so AP's again don't work for us.

Very funny :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: and great picture.

I personally am very pleased with the discount on AP's offered to us. I too started looking at the additional cost to go to WDW every year and really considered selling out. I'm impressed with our VP for DVC. Between the DVC AP discount and the AP DDE offer I'm considering doing another add on instead of selling. DO YOU HEAR THAT POWERS THAT BE, be nice to us DCVer's

NJDM we have no need to bring our script drugs down 90% of the people in Florida are from Canada anyhow so they have full access to them from home.
