I am not debating the law or that Kate, at this point, should be charged. But, one, an 18 year is hardly an "adult" (regardless of the law) and two, a 14 year old girl is quite capable of doing the pursuing, leading someone on and talking someone into doing something.
Kate seems to be obsessed with this girl. Kate seems to have a problem. But, this girl could very well, too.
The 14 year old knew the law too. She continued the relationship as much as Kate did. The problems these parents are having with this girl are not going to go away simply because Kate goes to jail. She is not a victim. She made the choice to do what she did. The difference is that the legal system isn't going to demand any change in her behavior or counseling to change it; it will be up to the parents.
