Free Internet to start May 4th.

This is great news. Wireless would be great. I know that the Apple Airport is not expensive. How difficult is it to secure the connection? How easy is it to set up?

Thanks

It's not hard at all to set up an Airport Express. You can select any level of security from none to allowing only computers that you designate by entering it's Media Access Contol (MAC address) information.

Good news - they drew a line in the sand....free internet begins May 4th.

Bad news- I check out May 2nd.

That's good news. We start at VB on the 11th, then to SSR after that.

GREAT NEWS!! :cool1: We check into OKW on May15th! Thanks for the info!! Joan

Great news for us too for our 25th wedding anniversary trip in October at SSR as DH has trouble functioning without his PC!!

Hi Everyone -

Saw this announcement on the member website.

Daily Internet charge to be discontinued effective May 4, 2008
Based on Member feedback, the daily charge for wired high-speed Internet access for Members staying at Disney Vacation Club Resorts at the Walt Disney World® Resort will be discontinued effective May 4, 2008. Guests renting Disney Vacation Club accommodations will continue to pay the daily rate for access, and high-speed Internet access charges still apply to Members staying at non-Disney Vacation Club Resorts.

In related news, plans call for wireless service debut inside vacation homes at Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort sometime this year. Look for updates on this Web site as new details become available.

I logged on earlier and saw the same thing. It's about time! Just in time for my June trip!:cool1:

I noticed it said that guests staying on rented points still have to pay. I wasn't an owner when I rented points for my May trip, but I've since closed on two DVC contracts. Although I'm staying on the rented points this time, I wonder if I'll still have to pay since I am now an owner :confused3 If so, I'm not taking my computer.

Thanks for rubbing it in everyone! Seriously though I am glad it worked out for all of you and that we now know.

Make sure you take your Membership cards with you. As you're checking in, I would say that you are DVC members and just wanted to verify that internet service is now free of charge for members.

IMHO, it shouldn't matter whether you're staying on rented points or not. If I made ressies for 4 nights and have to rent points or pay cash for 2 more nights, it doesn't make sense to me that they would let me have it for free for 4 and charge me the other two!!! :confused3

Unfortunately, I don't have a membership card yet. I only closed this past week and will be leaving for WDW on 5/4, and I doubt there's a snowball's chance of my getting a card by then. :sad1:

It shouldn't matter whether a member uses the points themselves, gives them away or rents them, the internet should be complimentary since he or she is ultimately going to be paying for it with their dues.

This is great news. I will be arriving on the 11th and will have to activate my IPhone(Hopefully getting it on the 8th or 9th) on the 13th. I really did not want to pay a fee to get to the internet just to activate my phone.

That is awesome!! We arrive on the 3rd, so I guess my husband can work from our room for free. His company just saved a few bucks.:rotfl:

We're arriving on May 3rd too. I was wondering if they will charge us for one day then start giving it free on the 4th.

I also leave about a week before. But....so what?? :confused3 Assuming we're all dvc members here, we'll all be back more times than we can count so if we miss it this time we'll still get it many times in the future :thumbsup2

Now if only they'd do wireless instead of those stupid cables!

Just bring your own wireless router. We did our last trip and it worked great since 3 of us had laptops.

You know, I had never thought about doing this. I guess I was thinking I would need some type of portable wireless router, etc. But my current router is very small. I could just unplug it and take it along with me. In fact, I have an extra router I don't even use, I'll just take it and use it. Then I can use my iPhone in my room over WiFi.
