Does anyone know where on the DVC website that this perk is explained for DVC members...just mention the section name so I can look thru the site and find it. I don't see it listed in the perks or news. I wanted to print out the specific wording and was surprised when I couldn't find it. Thanks for your help.

Can't give you a link to a secured website.

Wired internet is free for anyone staying on points at a DVC Resort.

As it used to be stated on the DVC site, it was FREE to a DVC member. It did NOT say you had to be staying on points at the DVC resort. The wording did NOT say anything about how you paid for your reservation, just that you have that perk as a DVC member. So I read that as your blue card would give you the perk for free and I have had that perk given to me in the past when I was not staying on points by showing my card.

Sorry to ask for the link (I changed my wording in my post)....can anyone tell me the section name that the information is listed under on the DVC site so I can find it when I log in? Thanks.

We are a DVC member at the WL, we stayed at the WL in October and payed cash, we were not able to get free internet.

It was printed in the Summer 2008 issue of the Disney Files magazine - the DVC publication. It's on page 29 of that issue.

Here is a link to the issue from the DVC Member site:

DVC Disney Files Magazine - Summer, 2008

"Surf freely: Based on Member feedback, Disney Vacation Club
will discontinue the daily charge for wired high-speed Internet
access for Members staying at Disney Vacation Club Resorts at
the Walt Disney World® Resort, effective May 4, 2008. Guests
renting Disney Vacation Club accommodations will continue to
pay the daily rate for access, and high-speed Internet access
charges will still apply to Members staying at non-Disney
Vacation Club Resorts. In related news, plans call for wireless
service to debut inside vacation homes at Disney’s Vero Beach
Resort and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort sometime this
year. Watch for more details online at www.dvcmember.com.
"

When you log onto the internet service, the agreement states that the service is free for DVC members.

I wasn't aware this had changed -- and I usually check the site fairly frequently for updates.

Anyway. This will be good for those who want to set up web cams during our stay.

Thanks Doc! That's exactly what I needed!

I think I know where this is headed. Good luck with that.

Let us know if you have any success but I gotta tell ya, IMO that thing is subject to a lot of interpretation even the way it is/was written. I think if you're trying to win an argument about getting free internet just because you're a member regardless of the pay method is just going to infuriate and frustrate you based on your previous posts.

Others: Haven't we already seen multiple threads that have determined: no points=no free internet?

Some fights ain't worth it. Just my $0.02. YMMV.

Basic rule of thumb for member onsite perks, like pool hopping and internet, if your reservation is made through Member Services for a DVC resort, you should get free internet. If your reservation is made through Disney Travel/CRO or Interval International, you will not get free internet.

I rented a reservation for this October. We were not members when I made the reservation, but became members in September. When I checked out, I showed them my DVC member card and they removed the internet charge from my bill.

You either got someone that wasn't paying attention at checkout or you got someone that applied my theory above in reverse. Some battles ain't worth fighting. ;)

Just got back last week from SSR.
Originally did not have a credit card on file.
Called support.
To get internet, yes I am a DVC member,I had to have a credit card on file.
The computer needs a card on file for access yet WILL NOT BILL THOSE WHO ARE MEMBERS..THIS IS A MEMBERS PERK~!
I put a card on file,used internet 11 days...not charged at all!
MEMBERS GET FREE,and card needs to be on file....[this is how system is set up]
Non members and guests staying at resort will pay 9.99 for 24hrs of usage[example go on at 9 am expires 9 am next day].

unsure about gray area of those staying on points who are not members...

hope this helps

I'd like to know this too. I am not yet a member and I will be staying at BCV in Jan 09 using points rented from a member. I just assumed I would not get free internet. Funny though, I may be a member by that January trip!

~Technically~ a guest is not supposed to get free internet if they are not the DVC member who booked that DVC villa ( such as when renting a reservation ). But it seems that sometimes they will get free internet  .

Like WilsonFlyer states seems to be subject to interpretation of CM that you may deal with so if your trip in January is on points rented from a member but by that time you are a member also, who knows - :confused3 ? Kristen didn't pay in this scenario but you may.
