Free Form Friday Discussion- 5th Gate

I thought an Aventure/Super Hero type park would have been cool and included things like Star Wards, whatever from Marvel they can (Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.), The Incredibles, and some Disney Jr stuff like Miles from Tomorrowland and Jake and the Neverland Pirates

... but with Star Wars land in DHS, obviously this wouldn't work anymore

Something that really showcases Americas History could be interesting - take ideas for the park Walt was thinking about for Virgina, include the never built Western River Expedition attraction,
Western river expansion was designed for frontierland, they would have to come up with something different.

I know this isn't very likely, but I'd argue that the US could support another Disney park entirely (probably in Texas). WDW is getting to the point where they'll just be stealing business from their own parks if they make many more. I thought I heard somewhere that the average family vacation is 5 days. They already have 4 parks and people seem to like to do Mk twice. At some point if you keep adding parks people won't have time for them all.

For DL, I just can't see where they'll find the space unless it's at a huge cost.

Once again, I know it's unlikely so don't be mean, just a thought. I really do think they could build a new park near Houston, Texas and have it be wildly popular. Houston has a huge population for locals. With how slammed both DL and WDW have been lately, I think another location would help a lot.

I imagine Disney would rather build new parks in other countries however, and let them foot the bill.

Still, I think our economy could support a new Disney Parks location.
Disney could support another location in the US but they are really focused on other markets like China (which is a lot more complicated than most think).

As a DL local they are building the garage because they are more frequently having to displace cast member parking and use parking lots that are not there's (garden walk/convention center) to handle the current crowds they see. However if they do build on one of the surface lots I think it will be where the toy story lot is because it was initially leased to them with the intention that they build a theme park on it after a certain number of years. Also, Angel stadium is going to possibly become vacated in the next few years if the Angels can't agree to terms on a renovation at the stadium and decide to have a new one built elsewhere in Orange County.
Parking as you know is a big issue in Disneyland. Right now Disney is looking at fixing parking issues along with the Star Wars expansion at DL, marvel at DCA and a downtown disney renovation.

Oh yeah, it couldn't be the exact same thing, but could be leveraged. I mean, they leveraged a lot of what Walt designed for the never builtvVirginia park in other parks that did get built

At this point I don't see tragic kingdom working out. A 5th gate would be something original. My wish would be for a DisneySea style park in the states but again with current management I don't see that happening.
It's not exactly original if there's already one in Japan though.

I'd love to see what he would've done with the St. Louis indoor park.
Have you been to Las Vegas?
Circus circus has an indoor theme park. It's small, but you get the gist. That one is crap but I agree, I'd be interested to see if Disney could take the concept and actually make it work

DisneySea is known for is incredible theming. Many call it the best theme park in the world. I wouldn't want a carbon copy in the US, I was talking more along the line of something to that level of detail or imersiveness.

@rteetz comment about what Walt could have done with the proposed St Louis indoor park got me thinking more about this - and with a lot of time to think while driving over the holiday, probably thought in more detail than is needed, but hey

What if the 5th gate was an indoor park building off of the original idea Walt had for EPCOT. I know in the past when they looked into it building a dome that big was cost prohibitive, but was thinking that is a large hotel was part of it - that would include DVC as well and also perhaps some permanent residences (condos, etc.) to help offset the cost. I would think there would be a lot of people willing to pay a premium to stay in a hotel that is actually inside a park and a group of people that would pay a lot to actually own a residence inside of a park.

With this, it would be perfectly climate controlled allowing them to control everything. Part would then be to perfectly represent different seasons in different parts of the park so the permanent residences would have some seasons and decorations, etc.
- Villains Land .... with thrill rides and meet & greets and every year they would decorate that area around Halloween time
- Holiday Land ... featuring artificial snow (perhaps snow tube rides, etc) and then a version of a matterhorn like bobsled ride and obviously would go big time with Christmas Decorations
- Summertime Land ... have some traditionally summer time related attractions but main feature would be a water park which would be an idealized version of what River Country was. This would bring something unique to this park by having a waterpark element included with it and may appeal to people that would like to spend some waterpark time but don't want to take time away from the parks/pay extra to go to Blizzard Beach, etc.
- Yesterday Land ... would feature "forgotten characters" (such as Oswald, etc.) and also old attractions brought back but modernized and "perfected" - so Mr Toad, the Skyway, Horizons, etc.
- Pleasure Island ... would harken back to the original Pleasure Island at DTD but also have Pinocchio references (perhaps a ride, meet and greets, etc.) and include a new Adventurers club. This would be the main dining area for the park

Keeping with the original EPCOT vision there would be a big use of WEDway people movers - thinking parking structure would be outside the dome and you would ride in WEDways to get into the dome/the park.

Like I said, probably spent too much time thinking about this and it probably isn't very realistic but do think that if they do a 5th gate it needs to be something different and unique and "big"

Very nicely thought out and expressed, Max Rebo - and I for one would LOVE to visit and/or stay there! Reminds me of a hotel/entertainment complex a former co-worker of mine stayed at for a conference years ago - used to be able to call to mind where it was, can't now - but I saw pictures and thought it was awesome.

On a side note, I LOVE your countdown marker for your trip! :)

Probably a dumb question, but I didn't see the FFF podcast in my normal DIS Unplugged podcast feed. Is there somewhere else I can download it?

I don't think they put the audio up for the FFF, and I think someone mentioned earlier in this thread that it was not on the regular youtube channel (I'm not great with YouTube, so correct me if I'm wrong?)

This is the one from 12/11/15, which is the last one from '15 - is that the one you're looking for?
