Free extra driver from Alamo not working

Alamo Additional Driver Fee

Is there always an additional driver daily fee? How much is it?

Any additional driver (including a spouse or domestic partner) will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day.

Fees are waived for additional drivers who are:

· Members of Alamo Insiders Program; which allows for one additional driver to be added at no cost.

Please Note: When booking via a third party; the relationship is with the Tour Operator and not Alamo directly. As a result Alamo Insiders benefits will not apply.

· Corporate Contracts in the United States are allowed the following additional drivers at no charge:

· Commercial (corporate) rentals

· The renter's business partner

· Employer or fellow associate, who has a signed corporate contract with Alamo and drives the car for business purposes and who meet normal renter requirements.

All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge.

An additional driver may only be added to the contract at a rental location and may be added or removed in the middle of the contract. When adding an additional driver in the middle of the contract both the renter and the additional driver must be present at the location.

The system will calculate the charges based on the dates the additional driver was listed on the rental.

Exception states that allow the spouse to be an "Automatic" Authorized Driver under all circumstances are; California, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, Oregon, and Wisconsin. There is no additional fee for the spouse to drive the vehicle in these states.

Note: it says rental location, not counter. Many have reported that they were able to add an additional driver at other locations during the rental period.

Black and white vs 'unknown source'.

You pay your money and you take your chances folks, but your only defense is what you can prove in writing not "read on the DIS"

:happytv:

This in NOT an unknown source. This is a recent employee of Alamo. If this were not the case, I would be here, giving warnings about taking your chances. But, it is NOT the case.
We all know that what is written on many websites is not always up to date and correct.
So...do we automatically blindly go with what we see on a discussion board? Not all the time. But if there is a former employee, that has dealt with the exact same situation, as an employee, why wouldn't you want to take their advice?

It's comments like these that make this board come across as unfriendly and nasty. Not good.

Just make sure DH has his insider's number with him. You can continue on with the online checkin. The Sunpromo, since it was theirs, should not have bumped you out. Another thing you might check, after you sign him in, is the updated reservation confirmation. It may add the driver on the left hand side, but, not carry it over to the right side of the charges. I am thinking it is a boiler plate charge, cause just about everyone, even non Insider members, can check in online. It would carry over if it was a non member and not carry over for an Insider.
Let me know how it works out for you.. :)

I will let you know, thanks. I haven't completed online check-in yet. I wanted to make sure that a better deal didn't surface first.

Actually, the black and white you are referring to is definitely wrong, since I can, in fact, add the additional driver online. That was never my issue. My issue was only the fee. Obviously if they found something that said you couldn't, it is outdated. Remember, old pages aren't always removed, their common links are usually taken off, but you can wind up at an old page by following a different set of links or by accessing a cached page.

Thank you Sheilby. :)
