I just got back from Germany with a group of people and they asked me about sites that would be easy to use to put pictures up on. I use smugmug myself, but figure that they would prefer something free. I know about Flicker and Photobucket (shutterfly?), but having never used them, are they easy for people who may not be to tech. saavy?? and are there any others???

I appreciate the input

Photobucket and Flickr are very good for free hosting sites. Photobucket will shrink the pic's whereas with Flickr the full original resolution is stored. With the free account on flickr the max image size is 5MB and only a max of 200 images at a time are able to be viewed. With photobucket there is a max amount of bandwith you get each month. If you put up a lot of pic's and have a lot of people view them then you will run into a point where your pic's may not be viewable for a few days or weeks (depending on the traffic you get). This happened to me a while back.

I have used both in the past, but have moved on to smugmug. It was worth it for me to pay for smugmug rather than pay for flickr or photobucket. The extra's you get with the paid membership, IMO, is much better with smugmug.

I have been using Photobucket for a few years and like it. I do not get too much traffic, so I have had no problems. I have an album here and there that I share with family and friends plus whatever I post here.

I prefer to use Flock to upload to it. I have had better luck with resizing on my own and then upload through Flock with the do not resize option. I guess the resizing algorithm they use is not the best and tends to make the shots a little blurry compared to doing it myself.

these are for older people... in 60s maybe... some older... so want it simple as possible and no charge. Am sure they have family who can help them (I am not saying that older people are not able to do this, just if they need help)

I use Picasa to organize my photos on my PC, and they have an "upload" button that sends them to picasaweb.google.com into an album in your account. You just need a google account.

It meets your criteria of free, and it is a pretty decent cataloging and minor editting package. Plus, one click uploads is nice. Just google "picasa" for more info.

Then I would go with photobucket. It is very easy to use.
