One more quick question from a newbie: What are the DVD rentals? Is it 6 beat-up copies of older Disney DVD releases in a drawer somewhere, or closer to a mini-Blockbuster store?

Just curious because I assume the parks will close early during the 12/14-12/22 trip. Since we're west coasters, we may find ourselves in the beautiful rooms at SSR looking at the walls those first few days while we adjust to Mickey's time zone. A movie may be just the thing.

I can't speak for SSR, but my two boys have done this at both BWV and VWL several times. At both resorts the have a notebook folder listing all the movie titles by rating (G, PG, R etc.). From what I noticed they were all Disney, or Disney affilates like Touchtone or Marimax. The child can not rent a movie if he or she is under the rating requirement without parental permission. For instance, 13 for PG-13, 17 for R. The CM will call the room and talk to the parent before letting the child rent any of those titles.

The selection of movies was good and current. Now I believe that VWL has VHS tapes still, and BWV has changed to DVDs. My boys tell me that the selection was better at BWV than VWL.

Hope this helps

Just "borrowed" DVDs a few weeks ago at SSR. There are a lot of movies to choose from. The kids watched Finding Nemo (for the millionth time!) and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. They have the whole gamut of Disney and Disney company associated movies ranging from the very old to the very new, G movies to R movies.
I can't remember if there were two books or just one to browse through. You browse through the book(s), remove the pages for your selections, and take them to the check-out counter for the CM to get your selected movies.
The one thing I found odd was that the movies had to be returned by 10:00am the next day. We were heading to a park first thing so I called from the room and asked if we could turn the movie in later in the afternoon. The CM said that was fine as long as it was turned in prior to our checking out.

Do you rent them at the Community Hall in SSR?

We were at VWL last December and I noticed that they had not added any movies in a couple of years. They didn't have Nemo or Pirates (if you can believe that). Now I am wondering if they did not stay current because they will switch to DVDs?

Does anyone know if VWL has gotten any DVD players yet?
