This question is for anyone who has gotten back from their trip which included free dinning...... did everyone actually have to be present at check-in....are they enforcing this rule??

Even if someone reports back that they did not need to show their whole party at check in, it will not mean anything for you. The rule is you have to show everyone, but of course Disney will make exceptions sometimes.

When we checked in AKL concierge my MIL was NOT present. I actually had forgotten about that rule until I read this thread.
We did ask several questions to be sure she would get checked in properly and upgraded her 1 day base ticket to a 2 day park hopper, so I'm sure they knew she wasn't a "phantom" MIL.
Her not being present when we checked in and got our keys was not mentioned, though.

We just got back today. We were there since 8/13 (1st day of free dining) The entire hotel was checking in - even people staying through had to check out and then back in for free dining - They were looking for children. It was my husband, myself, and our 14 year old so no one bothered looking at our party - but while we stood in a line that filled the lobby they requested to see all children. The dining plan was excellent! Made a special trip even more special. Sorry to be back!!!!
