As a dvc member, am I allowed to get free dining during a promotion?

No, not with a DVC points reservation.

Absolutely, as long as you fulfill the requirements of the free dining promotion. Purchase a package with room at rack rate plus add tickets and you can get free dining. You can purchase either a hotel room or purchase a DVC room through central reservations at rack rate.

Almost all of the time it is cheaper to use your points for DVC accomodations and pay for the dining plan. But Disney won't refuse your money on a full rack rate hotel room if you are willing to pay.

The division of Disney that offers free dining does that in order to get full rack rate reservations on resort rooms that they own. You, as a DVC member, are using points to book a villa from the inventory that members own. You're not giving any money to the folks that offer free dining, so they have no reason to give you that promotion.

It was a hassle to get them to allow us to purchase the dining plan years ago; they won't be offering us free dining. Not now. Not ever! sorry!

It being a "hassle" has nothing to do with it. It's purely economics to fill up cash reservations.

We considered this to save points but then picked eating OOP. Also with the free dining we are required to buy two day tickets to the park. For a single adult that is over $180. Yes you can apply the price to an AP if you need to renew at the time you go.

For us all the above apply but we really like the location of BCV and the pool so we are not going with the free dining. But again, we did toss the idea around to save points. If you are going to add the dining plan, I would book the free dining program. We plan to grill often, eat breakfast in our room and then share food when out. I will drink water and try to keep our food cost down below what a room at a value would have cost.
