Free Dining with a convention?

I have a feeling I know the answer already, but we are coming with a convention in September, staying at the Contemporary-will free dining be available to us? If not, is there any way we can get it?

Not if you booked through the convention.

You have to buy a room/tickets package at rack rate from Disney in order to get the "free" dining plan.

is there "any way" to get it... well, sure... book an additional room, buy tickets and be eligible for free dining... some have booked value rooms and not stayed in them in order to get free dining... is schlepping to another resort, checking in, etc worth it? that's up to you... some say it's unethical (thereby taking a room away from a family that could have had it, but then again, some would say that my family of four taking two rooms 'cause we're space hogs and enjoy the extra tv and bathroom is equally unethical)... others say you can get caught if you don't use the room... and on and on... that's not for me to decide... it's up to you, but that's the most cost efficient way to get free dining... (unless of course your company includes meals w/the convention, then it's even free-er! LOL!)

Nope, you can't get the ddp whether free or not when booking a convention rate room. Last year we were at CR for a convention and we found out afterwards that our convention room rate was only $10 cheaper then the regular room rate. And we (I took dh with me) regretted not just booking the room and doing a package ourselves. So check the convention room rate against the disney website rate to see if there is a difference.
