Free Dining -- should I switch resorts?

Sorry to ask a question after I just registered {blush}

I booked an "extra" trip when the free dining came out for just myself and my child (dh is using his vacation time for our December trip). I wanted to try ASMo or Pop, but they were filled when I called, so I opted for POR from Sept 13-18, with one day base tickets.

Now though, I see that some people are posting that Pop and ASMo are opening up here and there. I would like to save some $$ by staying at a value resort. * If I downgrade to Pop or ASMo (if they are even available) BUT bump up to the 6 day park hoppers, do you think I will still have to pay the $50 change fee?

I am thinking that for an extra trip, staying at POR could be more than I should be spending. Like a silly thing, I booked the nonrefundable airfare when I called to book the free dining, so I am locked in to those dates unless I want to pay the airfare change fees too (which I don't, lol).

Do you think Pop or ASMo would be insanely crowded? How about the bus waits?

The 50$ change fee is only for changes WITHIN 45 days of check-in I believe.

I don't believe this would affect you.

I don't think the values will be anymore or less crowded than the mods during the free dining times. BUT.. Remember that Sept 13 to 18 is a jewish holiday weekend and schools sometimes have holidays around that weekend. So THAT weekend may be more crowded than other times during the free dining promotion.

That said - we're not talking like MAJOR crowded. Just a little more crowded than not.

Does that make sense? :)

I'm not sure how old your child is but my 5 year old DD just loves the POP. We haven't tried any of the moderates yet because my DH and DD don't want to and not spending the extra $s is fine with me. Last year we went near the end of September during free dining and I didn't think that the buses, the resort or the parks were that crowded. I'm not sure about the change fee because I have only added to my reservation and they didn't charge a fee to add dates or tickets.

We have a trip planned for the end of September. I just switched our resort to Pop Century this morning. No extra charge.:rotfl:

We changed our resort 3 or 4 days ago. We're now staying at ASMu instead of POFQ. I think you'd really like Pop. We would've booked Pop but wanted to stay somewhere different. ASMu won because of the newly refurbished rooms.

I'd rather save the $, whether money is an issue or not, and enjoy my vacation. I'd rather not stress or feel guilty over the cash that has been spent.

Ah Ha! Another POFQ defector :lmao:

We did the same thing (well, almost the same.) We switched from POFQ to POP for the end of Sept. I just couldn't justify spending the extra $500 on a resort this time.

We love POP in fact we will be there in less than 20 days

Thanks so much :)

I just called and the CM was really nice about looking for availabilty. At first she said that Pop and ASMo were both not available, but then she checked ASMo again and said a standard room was available after all :) She said if I try back again POP may open up, but if not, I am okay with ASMo, and the savings over POR. I like POR, it's just that for an extra trip, I want to save what I can.

No change fee either, which was good :)

Thanks again for the info, it helped save me a decent amount of money

Figment, glad you were able to change. Keep trying for pop. Good luck.

Haygan, I know what you mean about the extra $. I think it was one of your posts that started this whole scenario for me. DH told me that we've changed resorts so many times that the CMs at CRO are playing rock, paper, scissors and loser takes my call. :lmao:

Oh yeah, I remember you saying my post caused the the 2007 Great Resort Debate :rotfl2:

Between our trip next month and free dining in Sept., I think I have logged about 10 calls to CRO in the past 2 weeks :sad2: Hopefully, I am done (unless a better SW Ding comes out and have to change my dates yet again :rotfl: )

I'm done as well. No more changes. It's beginning to be embarrassing for me.
