I took my 2 sons on a 5-day surprise trip to WDW from 9/15-9/19. Just got back late last night (boo hoo!) and wanted to give you all a quick review of our trip. The surprise was a complete success by the way!! I never saw my boys move SO fast in my life when I woke them up at 5:45 a.m.!!!
Free Dining Plan - worked like a charm! We had some absolutely WONDERFUL meals! We pooled credits (adults/child) with no problem. We did not share any meals so I can't comment on that.
Kona Cafe - Wow!! Why haven't we eaten a meal here before?? Our waitress allowed my 8 yo child to order an adult appetizer (which we didn't do because we didn't need that much food) and also said we could all order smoothies for our drinks (which we passed on also). Our meal (just me and my 2 sons) came to $115 plus tax and tip!! So glad it was free!!
We ate at the "new" Ohanas - very very good!! I almost cancelled this meal because I was treating my parents to their first Disney meal and wanted it to be special for them. So glad I didn't cancel because they LOVED it! All the food was delicious!! Even the bread pudding which I don't normally care for! There were 3 of us on plan and 3 not, so I used 4 adult credits and paid cash for my son and one other adult not on plan. No problems doing it that way at all....
Flametree Barbeque was the only counter service place that was very specific about my ordering 2 adults and 1 child's meal when I went to place my order (which was fine with me - that is what I was planning on doing anyways..., but just thought it strange that they had to announce that to me before I even opened my mouth!)
Le Cellier Steakhouse There is a new lunch menu at Le Cellier - I tried the seared beef tips with a basil & something else risotto (my memory is SO bad -should have written this down) with grilled asparagus and a lemon sauce. It was to DIE FOR!!!!
There was also a new jumbo shrimp and penne pasta dish that sounded good as well. (I heard the waiter tell someone it had 10-12 jumbo shrimps! yum!) The waiter here also said that my 8 yo could order an adult appetizer, but we didn't need any extra food so we passed.
Concourse Steakhouse Another outstanding meal - had no problem using the dining plan here - paid cash for my sister's meal.
Sci-Fi Diner Blah! But we knew that going in. We wanted to go in for the atmospher rather than the food. Did not use the dining plan for this meal, but paid for it out-of-pocket.
We used up all our credits without a problem - would have liked more snack credits though for water....
Kids were bumming that we never used our snack credits for ice cream - kept using it for water each day....
We will DEFINITELY do the dining plan again even with paying for it. Absolutely LOVED it!!
OK, so I want to go back REAL BAD!!!!!!

Glad you had a great time, we're leaving in 7 sleeps, but I know I'll be depressed when I come back home to "reality", too
