Free dining or cast member discount?

Hi,

I have begun planning a trip for next year but can not seem to figure what the deal is, cast member discount or free dining. I already booked a room and they said I can convert it later to a package or give my reservation number to our friend who works in the park and get the cast member guest discount. So which would be better, free dining or cast member discount?

Which one would save you more? FD isn't worth it for us as it's cheaper for me to pay out of pocket for our meals, whereas a room discount can shave hundreds or thousands off of my total depending on which resort we're staying at.
