I was not asked if I wanted insurance but they automatically added it on.
Can I call and have them remove it?

If memory serves me correct, this happened to me last year and I called and was credited the amount that was charged.

When Hurricane Frances was making it's way to FL in 2004 we didn't cancel our trip. We were to arrive the day the Hurricane was predicted to hit. We went a day early, booked a room at ASMO for that night..the airline didn't charge us a thing to up our reservation (which I was surprised). We spent the night at ASMO, played at the pool, went to DTD (we didn't have park tickets for this day) and then first thing in the AM we went to the Poly for our package to begin. At first Disney wasn't going to transport us (understandable) and we were going to get a cab to take us over to the Poly, but at 6am we went to the lobby and the CM's that morning were horrified to know that we were instructed to take a cab over to the Poly. They transported us. We had called the Poly that night to ask how early we could check in, 6am. So we get there about 6:30am and they check us right to our room.

The poly was much different than ASMO during the impending hurricane. At the Poly they brought in entertainment and characters. At ASMO they essentially shut everything down (including restaurants) the night before. The day of the hurricane we played in the pool (parks were closed), had lots of entertainment and about 4:30pm they asked for us to go to our rooms and stay in our rooms for the next 24 hours. They provided boxed breakfast/lunch/dinners for a minimal fee (5.00 I think) and recommended you buy one for each meal for the next 24 hours.

The next day around dinner time, they called each room and announced that the hurricane had pretty much passed (slow mover) and Ohana would be open for a buffet for a very minimal fee. The parks were closed for two days (the day before and the day of) and much to our surprise we were offered comped tickets for two days (which we didn't even ask for)

So...long story short...I'm not getting trip insurance.

Thanks for the information....confirms that I have made the right decision not getting the insurance too.

yes. Let them know that you did not ask for it and was not told it was added. I do believe you can get it back anyway within 10-14 days so I would call today just to be safe:thumbsup2

Let us know if it works out

We did get the insurance. We learned our lesson in 2004 when we got stuck by Hurricane Jeanne. We were supposed to be on the 7 night Disney Cruise, but Hurricane Jeanne had other plans. They evacuated Port Canaveral the day we arrived and we luckily we were able to get a room at Wilderness Lodge. We lost 3 days of our cruise, but we actually had a good time. Disney has to be the best place to be stuck during a hurricane! They had games and crafts in the lobby, all the restaurants were open and Mickey and Minnie came by to say hi too! I will say with the trip insurance we did get reimbursed for alot of our costs of the trip and even the extra cost of our hotel stay at the Wilderness Lodge. From now on if we are going during Hurricane season we will be getting the insurance. It is one less thing I have to worry about.

I live here so there isn't any need for it. But I also have a US Airways Mastercard which includes worldwide protection.

The Disney coverage does now include airfare that isn't booked with Disney, as of the last month or so.

I wanted to add that I did call two days before we left and asked Disney about cancelling. They would have refunded our entire money with no fee and the airlines wouldn't refund, but would have given a credit toward our next flight if we chose to do so.

The CM at Disney told me that Disney's buildings are made to withstand very strong hurricanes and they generate their own power/water so many people actually evacuate to Disney property. The only thing was the threat of tornados in the Orlando area during a hurricane.

We're from Southwest Ohio, tornados are a commonplace all spring/summer.

we got it. I am not worried about hurricanes while we are in Disney, but I bought it just in case there is a hurricane anywhere near the eastern seaboard where it may delay or cancel our plane. We live in NJ so since we are flying straight down the coast we thought it was worth the $119.
After seeing the nightmare at Newark airport with Jet blue and the Valentine day ice storm it is worth the extra money for my peace of mind!
