Free dining downgrade?

Hi,

I have done the dining plan for 3 years now but I have always taken what is offered with my resort. In 2012 if they offer the regular dining plan with mods and the quick service for values,can I get the quick serve even though I am staying at a moderate?

I do not know firsthand, but I think i've read on dis that you can't choose which free DDP you get, you just get whatever they are offering.

I've also read that some CS places will take TS credits, but there is no guarantee.

In the past you could not downgrade, but had to accept whichever plan was included in your resort category.

The 2012 Dining Plan pdf states that you can use TS credits at CS restaurants. If you're getting free dining you could use any/all of the TS credits at CS. It is a one for one trade.

Upgrading free dining can be done, downgrading it can't.

And it's been noted that if you want to, Disney's now given the official blessing to using TS credits for CS meals. That's a lousy deal when paying for DDP, but if you're getting it free doing this is basically just like getting the quick service dining, now that the regular dining includes a mug and the quick service only includes one snack a night.

I know it sounds weird to want to down grade but if I can use TS for CS that is great. The reason is this trip we really wanted to relax more and not live by dining reservations.

We used the reg. DDP 6 times and the QSDP twice now and it is more relaxing, for us, to do the QSDP. No ADRs to make and none to keep. My DM had been really hating the DDP the last few times. She said it seems like all we do is make our ADRs.

Now, don't get me wrong, I do miss some of our favorite TS choices (Raglan Road, Kona, WPC, just to name a few) but not having to keep to a schedule has been really nice.

Since officially you can now use TS for CS (and it's free) I say do what works best for you. You could still use some TS for TS if you change your mind but will have the freedom of eating whenever you want (at CS) if you so choose.
