Free dining and annual pass question

Hello!

I wonder if someone could help me out. If free dining is in fact offered this fall, we would like to book it. After looking at the various prices of different ticket combinations, we were wondering if the following is possible.

With the free dining package, we would like to buy the single day park tickets (that DO expire and no parkhopping ability). We would then like to apply our single day tickets (2 adults), to our annual pass purchase.

Firstly, is this an option for us to do at check-in? If so, how do we go about it? We hope to book this trip through our travel agent. Can she do any of this for us, or do we have to do the upgrading at our hotel?

Thanks!! I hope I made sense! :confused3

Your TA can do everything except the ticket upgrade. You need to do that on site. I don't know the details on how it's done - but I'm sure someone else has done it and will share.

I did this last year because my trip coincided with the expiration of my AP. I first went to a regular ticket booth at EPCOT. They told me they couldn't do it because it would void out my room key & Dining Plan credits. They told me to go to guest relations. Guest Relations took care of it but the guy stamped my room key VOID. I told him I needed the key to get back into my room and that my dining credits were on it. He just cleaned off the card and gave it back to me. I had no problem using it after that. Other people did report having problems trying to switch the tickets. Many were told they could only do that after they checked out of the hotel at the end of their stay. That was the story I got at the regular ticket booth also but when the CM conferred with a supervisor they told me Guest Relations could do what I wanted. The hotel desks do not sell or issue AP's, they always need to be purchased or picked up at a park or DTD.n I hope this Info helps.

Thanks for the info. I guess we'll buy our annual passes at guest relations at the first park we go to and upgrade our tickets there. We won't buy our annual passes through our travel agent then, and will just do that when we get there. Thanks again! :goodvibes

In theory, our group (who did the same thing a year or two ago) had no trouble upgrading some directly to APs and some to 10-day hoppers, then to APs.

In practice, my sister (who handled the details) lost several hours over several days trying to get it right. DDP credits vanished randomly, and had to be wrested back. She dealt with a couple CMs who all but accused her of ticket-scamming.

We ended up with something like 15 room key cards in the end, two of which had unused 1-day child tickets on them, some of which had room charging privileges, and some of which had DDP credits. We had no easy way of knowing what was on which card, and Guest Relations CMs tend to look askance at people who come in with a giant stack of cards, with absolutely no idea of what is (or should be) on each one.

In the end (which entailed several trips), I don't think we ended up losing more than a day off the end of a multi-day child pass and maybe a snack credit or two (we left with a zillion unusued snack credits). But it was a headache.

:surfweb: One day passes dont expire. You can upgrade, but we were told we had to wait till end of trip or it would void our dining and room key. No problem, we just did it as they said, even used some at a later date to do the same thing when kids passes expired.:dance3: :cheer2:

We could not get ours upgraded last year, if they told us about Guest Relations, I don't remember. We still have our unused tickets on our key cards. Never did get the tickets off of the room key. I did not want the hassle of messing up the Dining plan. The CM at the hotel desk told us that as long as we did not use the ticket on the room key, it would still be good. I sure hope she was right. We are planning a big family trip in Dec, and someone is always without a ticket. I was planning on using those tickets then. I thought that would be the easiest way to use them, any other suggestions? :confused3

Folks should be talking to the Annual Pass office, pressuring them to get with the hotel folks to start offering a Dining Plan option, just like DVC did. This charge really needs to be led by the folks in the Annual Pass office. Until then, AP holder are going to have to deal with hassles and inconvenience.

we have been pass holders for several years and I would love it if the dining plan was offered to purchase .I know that dvc members can now purchase dining plans. I was not aware there was an actual ap office. I will definatly get in on the battle for the ability to purchase dining for the ap holders. Tell me...what is the ap office information?

I would like to know this info also.

If you're a passholder, you should have contact information for passholder services. (I'm not a passholder anymore, and have thrown out all those materials by now, I'm sure.)

However, truly, the best time and way to express this need to them is through the normalized surveys they send out to you. Hopefully, you'll be part of the next sample they take. If enough passholders make a point of this in the normalized survey, then that should prompt the office to take action.
