Free Dining 2014 Discussion

We don't eat 3 TS meals a day-- we eat a breakfast buffet and a signature dinner. And we also liked the 2 snacks per day during food and wine. But doesn't the regular dining plan have 2 snacks now as well?

Ahhh. Those are great ideas.

We looked at the numbers last night and Caribbean Beach with a regular dining plan was the same price as a value resort with an upgrade to the regular dining plan. But at $60/night for all of us, we figured it would be better just to pay out of pocket for any nights we might want table service since it's highly unlikely we'll want it every night. Plus it saves $500 :)

I know. Plus the kids were excited to stay at AoA next time (this time). Also they are old enough that they could use their counter service on their own and the wife and I could do TS a few times (in peace) lol.

Since I am new at all of this I just wanted to ask. Why would they release October dates this week when in the past few years it's been released in August? Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited, I didn't want to wait until August, but is this just a new thing?

I feel like my TA thinks I'm nuts :rotfl: I told her about FD tomorrow (we have a Disney Visa) and she said she hasn't heard about it... now I wonder i fI should just book it myself at 7am and transfer it to her after the fact. We HAVE to have POR (we're a family of 5 and can't afford Deluxe) and I don't want to lose out because she doesn't jump on it at 7am exactly :confused3

Is this possible to do? Will the system even let you have 2 reservations for the same time at the same place?

The regular dining plan only comes with 1 snack.

The more people book ahead, the more fall off the list. It wouldn't surprise me to see All Star Movies in the no-go list as well. The popular ones teeter on the edge anyway. If you have people rushing out to book for free dining before it's official, it's not hard for them to fall off. :confused3

Noooo, don't say that, I want All-Star Movies ! :P And I've been waiting so long to book only once FD is officially announced... Sigh.. Oh well, we will settle for All-Star Sports if we must, All-Star Movies would just have been amazing though ! Either way, I will be at Disney !!! :D

I've been chatting back and forth all day with my TA about the promotion. She thinks it's possible POR will be blacked out as well as POFQ. Not a happy thought I know! Anyone have opinions on CBR vs CSR for a backup choice? We have 2 adults, a 13 year old, and a 3 year old.

CSR is my 2nd choice behind POR Royal Room. If I don't get those in upgrading to WL or AKL. I love both of those resorts, but trying to save my mom (who is traveling with us a little $$)

Emailed my TA earlier this evening. She said she cannot confirm any discounts until they are released. BUT, she wanted to double check my info so she could be ready just in case. She also wanted to know if I could stay close to my email tomorrow in case she needed to contact me in a hurry.:goodvibes:goodvibes

this is so very true! free dining depends on us Disney obsessed vacationers lol! Remember folks the more we hold out from booking ahead the better the chance of FD at our choice resorts, Disney is catching on but so aren't we ;) I've noticed in this thread alone compared to last years that a lot more people held out and are waiting to book when the promo drops tomorrow, good move everyone that went about it that way because that's the exact reason we keep seeing this promo that so many of us love! The problem occurs when so many of us book ahead the rooms get filled and they don't feel the need to offer FD to fill rooms at resorts, thus why this year the dates got a bit more limited but hey atleast this year we got all these dates at once!

Good luck tomorrow everyone :)

Thinking now that we have more 'adults' then children in our group that it might be worth it to upgrade to a moderate this year (first year ever to consider that)......just looking at the listed moderates that were covered. Are there specific rooms that are covered? We'd need a junior suite (to sleep 6).

I know that the FW cabin can sleep 6. POR AB rooms can only sleep 5 unless you have someone under 3 that can sleep in a port a crib.

So I am booked thru a disney specialist at POR for November. I'm also a DV holder. We booked because we will go no matter what. But if they do in fact release all dates tomorrow, am I allowed to call and get the promo, or am I dependent on her to call?? I'm just really nervous that I'm not gonna get it!! Plus if RRs are eligible, I want to upgrade from preferred to those.

Someone earlier said that when you check in the first day you can ask to be kept in the same room. It's our first Disney trip so I'm not 100%.
Yes you can ask to be kept in the same room, but there isn't a guarantee you will be. They will try very hard to accommodate you.

Yes :-/ I was hoping to have my flights before free dining came out. I want to book sat-sun, but am scared Sunday flights will suck and I'll lose FD if I need to change the reservation.

That is my question. I am prepared to call in the morning...but not sure of dates because waiting on flight fares. I am going the week of Thanksgiving, but will check in on Nov 20...if I book through to the next Sat and can't get good flights and need to change my reservation...will that be a problem or will I lose free dining? I would only be probably knocking off a couple of days.

If someone booked a package with flight and did not use her DV will she lose any $$$ if she reboots tomorrow with her DV??

Last year we had the regular dining plan with 1 snack a day and we ended up going to DTD the day we were leaving and getting a bunch of snacks at Goofy's Candy Shop to bring home with us.

Same here! I think that we still have some of that candy . . .
