Free Dining 2014 Discussion ~ Part 2

And this is what I've been worried about. POP never has no availability. :(

Really? We were able to book FD at pop for our December 2013 trip and now for our December trip. I was surprised when I read pop had no availability. Someone also said ASSp didn't have availability for some dates. That really surprised me. Maybe they are holding on to some rooms for the GP release?

Question for you because you seem to know, when it says appetizer on the menu for deluxe dining, does what you order off the menu for an app have to be under the app category? For example, we are going to Yaughtsman and I'd prefer one of their sides to an app?

I've actually never tried to do that- I usually like things in the app category. But I'd definitely say ask. If they're comparable in price I'd say the answer would probably be yes. They let us order off the sushi menu for an app at Cali Grill (there are only 2 exceptions when you do).

I just tried Chrome and Internet Explorer and no luck. Have tried three diff restaurants on 10/31 and 11/2 and it just bounces back to the page where you search for a reservation time. Somehow my package reservation must a have glitch.
i had the same type of problem. I called (no wait time at all today) and made my ADRs over the phone.

If I try to book online at midnight on May 7, how will I know that it's the free dining promotion I'm booking? At what point in the process will it be clear that I've got free dining and not just booking a package? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

When you get to the resort page with room pricing there should be a free dining promo button to click at the top. If you look now, it says room only and room/ticket package and whatever other specials/promos they have. You will choose free dining

How quickly does All Star Sports fill up? DB and his GF want to go with her DD and they want Sports. However they probably can't book until later in the week (not Wednesday with the rest of us). Will they still have a shot at Sports?

Is there any hope for people like me, who don't have the Disney Visa, to score free dining when it's released for the rest of us?? We are booked for Pop Century Oct 1-10 in the Preferred Pool View category..

Yup! I'm with ya in the no visa club. We book every year with the GP offer. There are a different amount of rooms at each resort set aside for visa holders and then the general public so everyone has a fair shot at the promo :)

This is what I'm hoping. Another poster stated previously that their TA stated that they have a different block of rooms for DV & GP. I've gotten it every year at POP, that is if I'm there in the dates. I guess we will have to find out on Wed. I will be on the phone at 6:55am. :)

Disney math! I had an absolutely TERRIBLE time trying to figure out the math for the hotel, but I can do it for the dining! Be aware I round everything. It used to be a total no brainer at $35 a day per person, but now they price has gone up, so you need to do a little calculating,

Ok, so we will use me as an example. I am staying five nights, and the upgrade costs about $48 per person per night with the taxes. So I'll round that to $50, and since I'm staying five nights: $250.

Now where are my ADR's? Narcoosee's, Cali Grill, Monsieur Paul, Brown Derby, and a few character meals. Cali Grill twice, actually. Ok so I'll look at Narcoosee's first. I'm a pescatarian, so I only eat fish. I go to the menus. The mussel app looks good, that's $19. Then I'm having the lobster- $69. Dessert is $8. That's $96 on one meal alone. Then if you look at Cali Grill, I have a sushi app for $22, a $40 entree, and a $12 dessert, you've got almost the entire upgrade amount on two meals. However not everyone eats at signatures. My advice: look at your ADR's and check prices. That will tell you if you're doing the right thing with he upgrade.

Disney math! LOL. Thank you for the examples. That helps a lot. And it made me hungry! :rotfl2:

I'm disappointed that we won't get free dining again this year. Last year, our trip was Friday, Nov 22-Saturday Nov 30. Free dining was available for the 22nd. We are booked for the same week this year (Nov. 21-29) but it's ending a day early. :( Anyone know why?

Disney offers discounts based on the day of the week not the actual date and bookings for particular days factor in on that. If Disney sees lots of people checking in on a particular day they will just offer the promotion a day earlier. Pre bookings is the single most factor of limited or restricted discounts. With discounts it's best to not pre book and be flexible when they are offered.

Is there anyway you could check in Thursday night instead?

Right, it went through the Friday before Thanksgiving last year, but it's Thursday this year. The year before I believe it ended on the Friday also. You're probably right. I guess too many people have decided to check in on the Friday! Lol oh well! Maybe I'll just have to add a add a day to my trip. Lol

Don't be surprised if its not midnight. It likely will be 6am (that's when you can do dining reservations for 180+10 days out), or another time during the night that the special offers are updated on the Disney website to allow you to book FD.

I finally got through! After being on hold an hour and having that call disconnected I tried to call back. It took me half an hour to get through the second time.

I am booked at POFQ. I was able to get a room discount. I thought about doing wilderness with free dining, but FQ priced out cheaper with adding dining.

What room discount t did you get at POFQ

Has anyone ever been shut out of FD? Just wondering if you plan on staying at CBR for FD has anyone ever been told " nope, all full for that offer" and had to either go up to Deluxe or down to Value and pay the difference for the regular dining plan?:confused3 just curious....I have never read it happening but perhaps I missed it.
