Free Dining 2008 Watch

Is anyone planning a meal at a restaurant that was on your "wish list" if you get free dining?

I think we are trying all new places (for us) this time:
Chefs de France - Dinner
Le Cellier - Lunch
1900 Park Fare - Breakfast
50’s PT - Dinner
Rose & Crown - Dinner
Tusker House - Lunch
Crystal Palace - Breakfast
Grand Floridian Tea - Late Lunch/Early Dinner
Food & Wine festival - Lunch on our last day

Last May we had ADR's for R&C and CP, but DH has sick and we missed them. :sad1: He also missed the tea, so I ended up going to that alone, but looking forward to having it with him this year (even though it's not on the DDP). Even without free dining...I might keep all our ADR's if we get a good enough discount on our room. We already reserved and paid our deposit, and our TA said she'd try to get us the best deal she can. So, fingers crossed and hoping for some Disney magic!

Can anyone tell me a good first restaurant to go to for a person going the first time

For people with children I dont think you can go wrong with Chef Mickeys or the Crystal Palace.

For adults I loved the California Grill and Narcoosees.

For both LeCellier!!

Do you guys get the travel insurance when you book a trip in August or september since it is hurrican season?

We never get insurance on a vacation except the cruise we took. We go for 10 - 14 days and even if someone gets sick I would find a way of us going after the crisis was over......

Looks like a great set of ADRs. Enjoy!

Well my family will be eating at the new Japanese restaurant....not sure how it will go over food-wise but watching them cook it will be fun. I dont know that I would take the chance of eating there if it was out of pocket. We will also try the new Tusker House Donald Breakfast....one of my boys LOVE donald. I am also hoping to get over to Ft. Wilderness for Trails End.....

New to my family (not me because I go almost every year "alone" with a girlfriend) will be the Yak & Yeti, Mama Melrose, Crystal Palace for dinner and Boma.

Some of the less expensive of these will be OOP breakfasts and lunches though......which I probably would not do if our dinners were not taken care of.

Oh and we are going back to LeCellier!!! Yeah - my kids still talk about LeCellier!!!!

I hope that you are able to get the FD promo and thoroughly enjoy all your meals!

Thanks....I think my family is more happy that this is almost over than actually getting the promo!!! I told them I will be so happy to not think about it anymore.....:lmao:

We decided we weren't gonna go to WDW this year but I'm secretly keeping an eye out for free dining. Gonna see what kinda deal it'll be for us. Hopefully, by the time I figure it out I'll still be able to get what I want resort/restaurant-wise. Thinking of going with POR....our first time in a mod. Hope they make the announcement tomorrow!

Biergarten is fun they have an oompa band, we're going back to that one again.
Ragland Road is good too, the Bread Pudding is a disney must! My husband is still talking about it and we didn't even know we liked bread pudding! they have an Irish dancer to in the evenings.
Haven't been to LeCellier didn't get in last year and couldn't get in this year, but we're going to try Tuto Italiano this year!
Narcoosee's is fabulous it uses two DD credits though but it is worth it and you can see the fireworks from the deck.
Boma was good, it's a buffet, but very good, we're trying something else this year though
Good luck picking restaurants, we didn't have anything bad last year and it was our first year.

Does anyone know if you book through Disney Visa and have to cancel, if you get your entire $200 deposit back if you cancel more than 45 days before your reservation?

Only asking because because the job may restrict August and September vacations in a month or so.

I know that sucks, but what are you going to do? I need to work to pay for the Disney trips, among other things.

Yes, you will get the refund back to you DV card. I did just that earlier this year. I'd booked the bounce back with free dining last yr but decided after the new yr that we were not going...ha I was just kidding myself because I start going into withdrawls if I don't go every year!:rotfl: Now here I sit waiting for the lines to open in the morning :yay:

Is Biergarten really good? I have been contemplating getting an ADR for it. I found out recently that I am of German decent and would like to try the food, but I will admit I am finicky about meat. I mainly eat poulty and seafood. DH likes most any type of meat but is picky about how it is fixed. I guess we can always find something. :confused3

We ate at Biergarten last year during free dining, just did a walk up at lunch time with no ADR. The beer sampler....mmm!! Unfortunately we missed the oompa band! Might try to head there this August again, food was quite good!

I thought it was good but I'm no expert on german food it may have been the first time I've had any, it's a buffet, it is the atmosphere and the beer that made it so great, the pretzel bread was really good though.

I know we have that post from 4-3-08

But did anyone notice that the Dis has this from their front page???

FREE DINING!!

So is it not a 'rumor' any more??? :teeth:
