Free Dining 2008 Watch

Can't tell you the website that has the rumor, because then the Gods of Disboards will sprinkle this thread with bizarro pixie dust and it will mysteriously disappear.

I just read this posted on mousesavers.com. They list ALL dates for all promos. This is what they had listed for 2007, although bounceback and UK had a week longer. ????

8/26/07-9/22/07 package discounts ("free dining") for general public

Wonder if these will be the dates for 2008 as well? Bummer, we wanted the last week in Sept! Will keep hoping.....

Not sure what it will be when it's offered to the general public, if it is, but when we booked bounceback for this Sept. while we were there last Sept., the ending date was 9/27. We're booked for Sept.26-Oct.5.

This is all the site says:

"RECENT NEWS Last updated 17 Mar 2008

Rumor: Free dining to be offered starting April 10
Don't quote us on this, but we've heard from multiple sources inside and outside Disney that Disney's "free dining" offer will return on April 10, 2008. We're not sure which travel dates will be included, but we'll post more information as soon as we hear it.
Posted 2008-03-17"

Our trip is booked, and the money is in the bank, including for the dining plan; for some reason free dining didn't even cross my mind when we booked (even though we had it last year). I would love for it to start by August 24, as that is when we check in. If we don't get it, I will pay for dining - however, since free dining for the general public has included at least the last week of August (if not the week before) every time it has been offered, I would say the OP's dates have some merit. Of course, that could be wishful thinking on my part. :goodvibes

If things are anything like they were in the past 2 years, the 'limited rooms' for free dining doesn't mean very few. People did the same the last 2 years that they are doing now. After the promotion was announced rooms were available until the promotion due date came.
It doesn't seem to matter if you book your room ahead of time, availability should be there when they announce the promotion.
It is possible that things will be different this year, but I don't see why. If anything, I could see more availability with the current economy problems.
We have a split stay planned. 1 week in DVC(8/23-8/30), then free dining (bounceback) for 3 days(8/30-9/2). If the rumors are true, we may change everything to 1 stay w/ free dining, and save our points. Our ressie deposit on the bounceback room will be refunded.
I will wait until I see the announcement by Disney, but I don't see a problem with other people booking their rooms now. I'm not sure if will help them any, being that they will cancel their original ressie to get the free dining.

Although, I don't see why anyone needs to get upset about this. We have a lot of people on the DIS, but not enough to sell-out all these rooms.

The main reason I did this is to get my ADRs in!!! And I really think that I have made the right decision considering that today and I mean today is my 180 day mark and around noon I got the VERY last table for the night at Chef Mickeys on the night that I wanted.

I called on my 180 day mark (3/18 for my trip 9/14-21) and Le Cellier was totally booked for dinner for all of my trip dates (that I can book 180+10) except for 1 (for 2 people). I got a dinner ressie for Le Cellier and will have to change my itinerary for that day.

If you're going for free dining I would book those ressies now!

So who has their ADRs?!...

On my 180-day mark, we successfully booked:

Sci-Fi lunch
Crystal Palace breakfast
Boma dinner
Garden Grill dinner
Chef Mickey's dinner

IF Free Dining comes out, our TA is going to try to get us Hoop-de-Doo (didn't book it now, since it requires payment up front w/out a dining plan of some kind, and that's big $$ for a family of 5!!). If we can't get HDD, I will add:

O'Hana for breakfast
Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner

Eating is such a fun part of Disney!!

Tuskerhouse Donald's character meal
1900 Park Fair dinner

Sci-Fi dinner

Askerhaus - Norway

IF Free Dining comes out here's what we have on the books:

Saturday, 8/30 dinner at Chef Mickey's (4ppl)
Sunday, 8/31 dinner at Le Cellier (4ppl)
Monday, 9/1 dinner at Crystal Palace (4ppl)
Tuesday, 9/2 breakfast at Ohana's (4ppl)

I'll be honest I'll be glad when I can stop "holding my breathe" :rotfl:

Is it April 10th yet?

I would LOVE to know more on the speculated dates...I'd love for it to start on 8/29 but can definitely live with 8/30 :goodvibes

Good Luck to everyone!!! I hope all DISers get their resort of choice (and their ADRs)

Got our ADRs on Saturday. Called at 7 a.m. on the dot and still could only get a late lunch 2:40 for LeCellier. Bummer.

But dh was happy we got in.

So...

LeCellier
Ohana's
Chef Mickey
Mama Melrose
Liberty Tree Tavern

Nothing crazy. I had wanted to do CRT but we decided against it.

Later that night my inlaws called saying they wanted to go with us again. (They went with us in 2006 for free dining.) I had to scramble with my ADRs. I was worried. The CM was really helpful. When she couldn't find tables for 7 (except for Chef Mickey's) she started looking for table for 2 at the same time as my ADRs. She worked it all our perfectly. We'll ask at the podium to be together is possible otherwise, alone time is good, right?! :goodvibes

So... I've got my ADRs. Got my room. Just need the code for our visit!

Just hoping for free dining, or we will have to make some changes:cheer2:
Chef Mickeys (dinner)
Hoop Dee Doo
Sci Fi Diner (lunch)
Whispering Canyon Cafe (dinner)
O'hana (dinner)
Raglan Road

Biergarten (dinner)
50's Prime Time (lunch)

Le Cellier
Sci-Fi (Lunch)
Chef Mickey's 2X
O'hana
Tony's Town Sqare (Lunch)
Hollywood & Vine(Lunch)
1900 Park Fare

:cool1:

I guess we're just odd because we'd rather eat at Signature restaurants everyother night. We don't like to be tied down to dinner everynight...
We're eating at HBD (fantasmic package) on my Bday
We're eating at Jiko
We're eating at Cal Grill for fireworks
We're eating at Boma for DD's Bday per her request
We'll be fine with CS on the days without a signature TS - it's more food than we can eat in total anyway. Still hoping for "free dining," and yes I know I make a totally different reservation to do it - done it before and hoping to do it again :thumbsup2
I will continue checking here between now and April 10, or whenever, but I really hope they don't keep us waiting too long...
