We have one free day during our vacation and we were thinking about spending it at a beach. Im kinda leaning towards Daytona or Cocoa. Which one do you think is better and kid friendlier and has the most to see?

We go to Cocoa Beach, but we are not looking for alot to do, we mainly just go to the beach and at night go to dinner and maybe a round of mini golf or go-carts. But last year we went to Kennedy Space Center (Cape Canaveral) which was really interesting. We like sitting on the beach near the pier and watching the large ships (alot of Disney Cruises) go by. I haven't been to Daytona in a long time but I'm sure they have alot to do but just steer clear during any spring breaks. It's wild!!

I would think Tampa is the better option!

Tampa doesn't even have a beach. It's on the bay, not the coast. It's also an hour and a half away.

I go to Cocoa the most.

my kids like coaco beach better than daytona. they look forward to going to the surf shop there too!

Cocoa beach is clean. Kids loved to play in the surf near the pier. Not much to do in town but we go for the sand only. Not much signs of damage to the beach itself. It may have lost a few feet here and there but nothing major. If I could I would post picture of the beach but I do not know how to do it on this forum. Is there a way I can post pictures.?

We also used one of our days in Orlando as an off day. We did spend some time at Ron Jon's Surf shop which my two boys loved :thewave: , but don't go to the beach right there by Ron Jon's. We traveled down the coast a little way and found some really uncrowded beachs across form the Navy post. We met some locals fishing and had a great visit with them. We have found if you look a little further there are great things to find. :moped:

DanielD, I dont know if there is a way to post pics here, I've never done it so I wouldnt know.
Thanks you all have me thinking very seriously of Cocoa Beach.
Which one of the beaches has something that envolves nature attractions? Something like an aquarium, or a canoe ride down a stream full of wildlife or something like that. I know when we went to Myrtle Beach last year they had a canoe ride like that and we didnt go and Ive regreted it since.

Here is two picture I took early March 2005 of the beach from the Cocoa Beach Pier. We usually park at the Sheppard municipal parking lot and walk to the pier. Kids love the pelican on the pier. If you want more pic, I'll post the on the Kodak gallery.

Granted, there is not much to do in Cocoa Beach itself but the beach is usually nice (but the water cold) and is not overdevelopped. Ron Jon surf shop is a must.

Did also Sand Key Park in 2004 (very nice but the drive was awfull-2.5 hrs) and Fort De Soto Park this year (nice also but traffic terrible even on Sunday).

For convenience I would choose Cocoa but for scenery definitely Sand Key. But we look at it with adult eyes. Kids usually don't care as long as they can play in the sand.
