We are heading to Disney mid-October and will arrive Saturday, late morning. We are not going to a park that day and our plan is to swim and have dinner at the hotel (Pop) for the afternoon. For lunch we had considered going to a restaurant in DS, but now we have been leaning towards eating at a monorail resort. Maybe Kona Cafe or Whispering Canyon cafe. Something that we can still likely get reservations for and isn’t top of budget. We have never been to any of the monorail resorts and would love to take a look. Any favorites we should consider? Thanks!

The antics at Whispering Canyon have been seriously cut back so consider that. If you arrive just right at Kona you can get the Tonga Toast (breakfast).

We enjoy Whispering Canyon and WL is beautiful, but it's not on the monorail if that matters to you. If you are relying on WDW transportation, you would need to bus to MK and then boat to WL to get to WL.

Of the monorail resorts, in terms of food and atmosphere, we prefer GF Cafe. No matter which one you choose, I would definitely still get off the monorail at each resort and check it out!

We're having lunch on arrival day at Whispering Canyon. The last member of our party arrives at 11:00 am. Do you think 1:15 pm is too quick of a turnaround to get to the resort and then over to WL? We're staying at the Boardwalk and likely aren't opposed to using a Minnie Van or Uber to get there.

I'd suggest The Wave or Whispering Canyon. Both are good with The Wave being a bit more refined and Whispering Canyon a fun smokehouse joint. We also like Kona but more for breakfast than lunch or dinner. For The Wave you can make a reservation via Open Table so if you change your mind or get delayed you can cancel the reservation without a monetary penalty. Though I would imagine you could get a last minute ADR at either too.
