I thought I had read somewhere that you can go to any restaurant or snack bar that has fountain drinks and ask for a cup of water for free. Can anyone tell me if that is true? I'd much rather a cup with a straw for the kids instead of bottled water. They love to eat the ice :)

It is true you can go to any QS and ask for a cup of ice water. I'm not sure they give you a lid and a straw. Straws should be where they have condiments, but lids may not be.

The counter service locations will give you a "cup of ice water" free. We do it all the time!

Sweet :cool1:

I wanted to buy a bunch of individual drink mixes to bring with us so I needed to know for sure. We don't eat or drink any high frutose corn syrup or artificial colors or dyes so natural mixes with free water sounds like a great plan to me for beating the heat!!!

Thanks everyone :goodvibes

Also a real money saver.

Yes but to be clear its only quick service, not table service, and you have to wait in line. So at certain times of the day it could take a along time.

Also if you are using the drink mixes that are for 500 ml bottles you should bring your own bottle and fill it with the water since I think its only a 12 oz glass.

In fact you should have some sort of water bottle any way since you can also fill it with your left over ice from meals and carry it much easier than a cup with a straw. Some even use straws.

In September its still very hot and you will need to drink way more than you think you should.

Though now that is see you are from the south probably already know that.

Absolutely, and the do it with a smile :) I don't drink soda in the parks, the sugar makes me I'll with all the heat. I get a LOT of those waters.

I've noticed for whatever reason MK gives you huge cups and epcot gives you small ones. Not sure aout the other two, I'm working my way around.
They do have straws and lids. :)

I'm not sure about tops at AK, but I doubt I'll use it if they do. Those paper straws are awful, lol. You can't have normal straws in there. Not even from juice boxes.

Right now we're really looking forward to WDW bc they're about 10 degrees cooler than we are. The heat here has been horrid this summer running 105-110 heat index with 80-90 percent humidity everyday. :/ blah.

Thanks for the size tips. I much rather being prepared ;)

I usually bring the powder drink mixes because the florida water is kinda gross. Also, ask for extra ice. For some reason they don't put too much ice in it when you get water and it is melted in a few minuets. You can also ask for a cup of just ice if you have your own drinks with you and they have gotten warm.

The free water at the counter service locations doesn't have the same taste as the water out of the drinking fountains. I think it must be filtered. We bring our own reusable water bottles. They will not fill them for you due to rules. But they will gladly give you a cup of ice water that you can then use to refill your water bottle.

The PP who mentioned waiting in line is absolutely correct - if you want a refill at a prime meal time, you will be waiting a bit for it.

The water in FL is just so gross...I would rather go broke buying bottled water than drink that stuff...it smells pretty nasty too

I'm with you. Plus, as mentioned, the lines can get really long. The lines at the bottled water places are usually very short. My time is valuable when I'm on vacation. But, to the OP, if you do catch the lines at the right time, and your kids do like the ice, I hope it works out for you!

It would be better to get a Britta or Bobble filter bottle.

You can fill up at a water fountain and it takes most if not all the funk out of the water.

You can't use the flavor packets unless you process the water into another bottle.

We used Britta because I found some insulated sleeves at Walmart and they fit the cooler backpack we used.

I think the stuff you get from the soda dispensers is filtered or something. It does not have the same smell or taste as the water that comes from the tap in the hotel or the drinking fountain in the park.

For me it is not so much money, it is the waste involved in the plastic bottles that need to be recycled. I avoid buying bottled water on general principle whenever I possibly can.

Its filtered. There is no way that Coke would allow that stuff they call water to be used to make Coke products.

I usually bring my refillable mug into the parks and get them filled with ice and then pour bottled water over the ice. By using the mug you don't have to throw your drink out before getting on a ride. I find this works really well for beating the heat.

I find sometimes if I get the water from the vendors it tastes a little lemony. I think the water is hooked to the lemonade line.
