Free Admission through Cast Member - Issues?

Hello,

We are staying offsite November 10 - 17. We have not yet bought tickets for WDW, though we anticipate visiting the parks Nov 12 - 16. We anticipated buying a 5 Day Park Hopper ticket. However, we have a relative that works at WDW and he said he can get us into the park each day (apparently each cast member can let 3 people in).

Has anyone gotten free admission to the park through a cast member? If so, are you confined to the park they work in, or can you visit the other parks? What issues does this present? The biggest one would seem to be not being able to book Fast Pass in advance. Can you even get Fast Pass in this situation?

Would it be worth it to get free admission a couple of days and buy tickets for other days so we can use the Fast Pass to reserve the popular rides?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I feel like these are all good questions for your CM relative.

I have gotten entry through a CM, but it was before FP+.

We didn't have issues.

These questions need to be directed to whomever you intend to get the tickets from.

I asked here as I was hoping to get some information and ask fewer questions of the person going out of their way to do something nice for us.

I’m sure somebody will come along and provide you tons of info on cast member ticket allowances, but I believe their may be multiple ways this can be achieved depending on what your family member does for Disney and maybe even how long he’s been there. The phrase “can get us in” is a bit vague. I wish you the best.

You are not confined to the park they work in, many CMs don’t work in any park. There are different types of CM passes to get you in, I believe some require the CM host to remain with you and others don’t. Generally, CMs can make FPs in advance up to 7 days as I recall. I was in Epcot with a CM friend on his Guest Pass a few weeks ago and we got Soarin’ FPs for two only a half-hour out on a whim. You will probably need to ask your relative for more specifics on what they can and cannot do for you.

Whether they have to stay with you or not depends on how close family you are. Have your relative check the rules.

Thank you. This is a good start.

I am a long time CM and probably could address all your concerns but I agree with StacyStrong. Also, if your relative doesn't have the answers, tell them to refer to the HUB.

When u enter the park with the cast member they will give u a park hopper tix so u don't have to stay with the employee...u can book FP+ but only once u are inside the park...no 30/60 day window etc....hope this helps!

CM's are limited to making 4 days worth of FP and they can only make them 7 days in advance. Also, the CM will need to make all FP reservations through THEIR MDE account. You, as guests, will have no access through your own MDE accounts (there is no way to temporarily assign guest passes). If you were staying onsite, someone could "Friend" them on MDE, and then the CM could add that person to the booking party and then when prompted about the lack of ticket, remove them from party and still make the FP at 60 days. This is so that you still get the the benefit of being an on-site guest. But as an off-site guest this wouldn't apply.

Once you are signed in, since you are a relative, you are free to tour without the CM staying with you. You will be given a plastic guest pass that you will scan for entry and Fastpasses. They are park hoppers, but there are block out dates. All people who will be using a guest pass have to be signed in at the same time with the CM present. You can't have the CM sign 2 people in, but the third likes to sleep in and wants to join the group later.

This is no longer true. The guest uses the guest pass that they used at the tap point to enter the park. If the cast member is able to get a fast pass it will be assigned to that guest pass and will be tapped at the fast pass tap style rather than a magic band. When I use my guest passes to admit my son and his wife they use their guest passes to park hop. Once I have entered the initial park with them, they are allowed to go into other parks without me on that day. It works for them because they are immediate family members.

The OP needs to contact the "relative CM" to ask the questions. There are multiple types of CM Entrance Pass / Guest entry. The CM will know what type of pass / passes they have and how they are required to enter their guests. All methods are all clearly spelled out on the HUB.

FWIW: both hopemax and KerryCM "can be" correct depending on what type of CM Entrance Pass they hold.

Also, there is NO SUCH THING AS A "TAPSTILE". Disney calls them "TOUCH POINTS". You TOUCH your ticket media to Mickey, not TAP. (my favorite rant)

I stand corrected!

As other people have said, you don’t have to stay in the same park. It sounds like a standard maingate but they offer different benefits for full, part and temporary cms. You should be fine - we used it all the time and got decent fp as long as you(or your cm) keep refreshing. You can definitely get some, but it will vary on which -like probably not slinky, but def rocking rollercoaster. It depends on if the money is worth it to you. We booked our fp at the 60 mark and still didn’t get slinky. I don’t remember a 4 day limit, but that could be true (it’s been a few years).

My niece was a CM and IIRC it depends on the type of pass(es) they have access to and which ones they are willing to "gift you". We had AP's when we visited her and even so I would not have asked for a pass from her as she had lots of friends and other relatives that would ask.

One thing is, that CM must stay with you all day/night unless a very close relative. Another is that they must make your FP for their guests.

It is a great savings and worth that "inconvenience", for most guests. Have fun.
