We leave in 4 days and my son is really sick :( He has been vomitting on and off for 6 days and I'm really stressed that we won't be able to go!!

We went to the doctor a couple of days ago and were told he had a bug. At the doctors again (half an hour past our appt time and hoping for a miracle!!!

We have insurance but I doubt it will cover everything we have spent and it won't cover the disappointment we will all feel if this trip falls apart :(

I dont have any advice or anything, but I am so sorry. :sad1:

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you get a Christmas Miracle!

How long is your trip? You might need to talk to the doctor about the possible need to delay your departure by a few days and ask what paperwork they can provide for the insurance company to cover the expenses for this (which is probably less than a complete cancellation). Also find out from the insurance company what they will cover under those circumstances, what paperwork is required and who makes the new bookings and up front payments. You also need to find out what is covered if he is well enough to travel but it reoccurs when you are away.

I really feel for you and i hope things turn around for you in time. Best of luck, these types of things often go suddenly and quickly.

i would think that if its just "a bug" it would start to go away by the time you go on the trip.

i wouldn't really freak out until 24hrs prior.

and if he's still sick but not THAT sick then I'd probably still go.

if he is seriously ill still at that point then I'd get the doctor to write and sign a note stating that he is not healthy enough to travel so that you can submit it to the insurance.

i hope it all works out for you though.

Oh no Lisa, praying for you that he is ok to travel.
6 days of vomiting, what sort of bug did they say.
Is he anxious or nervous or too excited re the trip.
My daughter was sick about 3 years in a row on Xmas day when she was little, she used to get so worked up with excitement.
Hope to hear back soon, he is all ok and that no one else catches it.

I hope your son is feeling better.

It would be awful to delay or cancel after all the planning and anticipation but the main thing is that your son is well enough to travel and is no longer throwing up. :flower3:

Thanks guys :) The doctor thinks it's viral and he is just having trouble kicking it. He's been ok for the last 6 hours so fingers crossed things stay that way. It's so hard to keep him resting.

I was told by friends that travel insurance doesn't cover gastro so I got even more worried but I'm sure he will be fine. Praying he will be fine!!

Have you got hydralyte?

hope he makes a swift recovery within the next 24 hours or so. I do know Virgin won't let kids fly when vomiting (we were removed off a flight when my son was ill), and really you don't want to put him in that situation.

I would push the hydralyte icy poles into him a sap if you haven't already.

Good luck! poor kiddo :(

Hope he is feeling a bit better today. grab him some of that Yakult drink, it will get rid of the bad bacteria in his gut, get him on to some for of fluids, be it Coke, icy poles or powerade/gatorade.

The Yakult and Poweade/gatorade is what i have always used for my daughter, works well

The doctor called earlier and the tests results show he has a parasite! Never been so glad to hear my child had something wrong with them, lol! At least this is treatable! Antibiotics started and hopefully should be all good for Tues :D

Thats good news, it would have been an additional stress leading up to departure that no one wants.

Have a safe and wonderful trip:)

So glad it's treatable Lisa!!! He should feel better soon!

Thanks guys :) He looks great today. Keeping his diet simple until tomorrow just in case :)

Parasites respond very quickly to antibiotics (DD had one, one time) so I am sure he will be fine for the trip (phew!!) but a light diet for a few days is a good idea. While people are promoting Yakult I would actually go for a full blown probiotic - the chemist sells ones suitable for children as well as adults to help restore all the flora in his tummy the antibiotics are killing off as well as the influence of the parasite. Also don't be surprised to find he is a bit more sensitive to food for up to 6 months afterwards - just may react and feel sick quicker when he has too much, too rich, too sweet etc. I know the Docs don't say this is the case, but I know 2 others with children who got giardia and had the same experience as we did with an increased sensitive digestion for a while afterwards. Hopefully you should make the holiday fine. We can't predict what might go wrong but it is always traumatic just prior when you are so looking forward to it!! May the rest go smoothly and have fun!

Thanks Wendy, he's feeling good today so I am much less anxious :). I've had him on probiotic powder since Wednesday (actually all of us!) and we'll take them with us.

Almost packed!!

Always a relief when you have some answers. Glad to hear the antibiotics are kicking in. Have a wonderful trip!

oh wow that was a tense couple of mins till I read the whole thread, cant imagine what it was like for you living through it. So glad you know what's up with your boy and that he can be treated. safe travels.

I am so glad to hear that things are resolving and you can enjoy that special trip - have a wonderful time :)
