Freaking out!!

- . Also don't be surprised to find he is a bit more sensitive to food for up to 6 months afterwards - just may react and feel sick quicker when he has too much, too rich, too sweet etc. I know the Docs don't say this is the case, but I know 2 others with children who got giardia and had the same experience as we did with an increased sensitive digestion for a while afterwards.!

My daughter got Giardia when she was 2, took Drs months to diagnose it - Initial diagnosis - Over anxious first time mother - she is now 17 and STILL has digestive/stomach issues.

OP - so glad he is on the mend, enjoy your trip,

Glad to hear he is feeling better! Keep his diet plain for the next few days (dry toast, crackers, etc.) and make sure he keeps up his fluids. I would definitely get some Hydralyte or Gastrolyte (the former tastes better apparently!). Both have icy poles (the Gastrolyte ones are jelly when unfrozen), liquid and effervescent tablets and Hydralyte also has powder sachets. It's actually good to take when travelling anyway! We took some of the Hydralyte tablets with us and the apple/blackcurrant was actually really nice!

Hi everyone :) We are in the air on the way to NYC (loving in flight Internet!).
My son has been really good. You wouldn't even have known he was sick! Of course lack of sleep on a long haul flight makes for cranky kids anyway :(

Can't wait for bed tonight!

Great to hear. Minnielovesmickey - yes my DD took a few years to recover too - we still don't know what parasite it was as it had cleared mostly by the time I got her to the docs (awful parents that we are but she'd get better then relapse and we were travelling outback Aus.) 10 years later and she's fine but still picks up stomach bugs easily unless she keeps up regular probiotics. She should go get tested for heliobacteria too but she's an adult now and up to her.

My DD just finds that certain food irritate her stomach and bowel, so she has learnt what to avoid to stop that irritation. I found the Dr just wouldn't listen to me that something was wrong, but we kept pushing and finally got the right medication, but the damage was done.

Probiotics, Yakult and lots of yoghurt each day do wonders for her.

Hope you all have had a very merry christmas and have a wonderful new yr

Same to all of you on the boards - eat lots and laugh lots and enjoy the family/friends time.

Glad to hear that everything worked out in the end. Just thought i'd add for anyone else looking that activated charcoal tablets work magic if you are violently ill with a stomach bug. You can get them from the pharmacy, but have to ask the pharmacist as they are kept behind the counter.
