Freaked out about Haunted Mansion

I've never seen a ghost, but do you remember back in the late 80s or early 90s when they had a CM dressed in a full suit of armor and step forward and scare the crap out of you??? I would beg and scream and cry to skip the ride. Now that I'm the parent....I think they should bring it back. ;)

I totally remember someone standing at the very beginning of the ride when you are going up and before the turn in someone would scare you there...:rotfl2:

Welcome newbie :)

I've ridden the HM many times and haven't seen a real ghost. I also grew up in a very haunted house so I would know if I saw a real one. :)

Yep, second this. I've had some interesting things happen at my own house, but nothing out of the ordinary on HM (and I've ridden hundreds of times).

This is a great feed. Thanks to the OP who started it! I'm thinking of sending in my friend the "Ghostbuster" in with her K2 meter (yes, she really does this). Maybe we could get an answer!

I think I would poop my pants if someone jumped out at me. I never go to Halloween Horror nights because of that. Too scary.

I just don't get how these things get started. I read multiple places about a little boy on the ride. If it isn't true, it must be some grand hoax put on by a ton of people.

DH and I actually do go on some real ghost hunts. I'll keep my eyes out ;-)

I'm laughing along reading this thread and it reminds me of the recent stream of photos taken from a haunted house in Canada. These are some of my favorites:

I don't think I'd mind seeing a real ghost in the Haunted Mansion, because I would just tell myself that it was all part of the ride.

However, I definitely, positively remember the old days when there was a CM (usually in armor, but I think there was one time when there was a different costume) planted in the HM to lunge forward and scare us to death on the ride! I hated that! The guy in the armor would target every 2nd or 3rd Doom Buggy. It got to a point where he began actually touching the arms of some of the passengers, which made it worse. I think he started out originally not touching people, and then he did.

I don't know if I have a ghost here at home with me, but I have a TV that used to turn on by itself at all hours of the day and night in the past (especially when I moved it into a different room). I would see the TV screen light on, walk over to turn it off...and 30 minutes later it was on again. I reasoned it away by saying it must just be an electrical issue...over and over again. Eventually it stopped.

These are the funniest photos I have ever seen!

Funny, I've never heard.stories of the HM being haunted, only the Alice in Wonderland ride.

The scariest thing in the Haunted Mansion is stepping off of the moving sidewalk.

Wife and I would disagree. Scariest/Creepiest part of the ride is the safety announcement in Spanish when you first get on. It's almost like they went overboard with it lol.

The last guy looks like he is ready to stab whatever he is looking at! :rotfl2:

Those pics are hilarious.

I checked snopes.com for the Haunted Mansion ghost urban legend but didn't see anything. But the article there listing deaths at the park is pretty creepy. I know it's a tiny number relative to total visitors, but just reading the details... ick.

The Canadian photos are from a Haunted House where they're in a pitch black room and a car comes full speed at them looking like it's going to run them over.

I know that no one will agree with me, but I actually think that a couple of those photos - while still being extremely hilarious to see! - look a bit 'staged.' The expressions and poses look a bit too perfect, in my opinion - like those people knew exactly what was coming and put on their best 'scared' faces.

Ha. Those pics are hilarious!

Okay. I got some more info out of my roommate. He said a bunch of cast members have seen the little boy ghost. He's usually crying near the end of the ride. The CMs refer to him as Joshua. The story he was told is that the boy's mom spread his ashes on the ride in the 70s and he's been there ever since.

Not saying I believe any of that, but my roommate sure seems to. He said there's a video of the boy that's been passed around among CMs. That's what spooked him. (I don't think he ever actually saw the boy in the mansion.) I tried to find the video online, but didn't have any luck. Would love to see it if it really exists. Anyone here know anything about this video?

Thanks for the background! There wasn't any information on the newspaper website where I saw them.

There were 35 or so photos and some of them were clearly "authentic" as they're teenage boys (and wouldn't they refuse to look scared?). These ones just cracked me up because they do look so extreme!

I remember the person dressed as a knight freaking people out! They had one at Tokyo DL in the late 80's. I was so scared, wasn't expecting someone to be walking in that hallway part, let alone a knight! ack!
