Frances Rainfall at WDW

Fellow DISers,

Strangely enough, my wife and I both have degrees in Meteorology. And, we, of course are big Disney fans! Therefore, the past month, we have kept a pretty close eye on the weather reports from those of you who experienced Charley and Frances. If you ever want to see live weather data from WDW, the Swan and Dolphin have a "WeatherNet" station installed on their property. You can access it here.

Late last night (Sunday night) I snapped a screen shot of the data, and I thought that I would share it with you. I haven't been able to verify this data, but they reported nearly 29 inches of rain from Midnight Sunday night until Midnight Monday night! Here is the screen shot:

Ok, you are the meteorologist and I'm the attorney, but are you sure that's right? Are you sure that isn't over the last month or so? That's 2 1/2 feet of rainfall in 24 hours and I would think everything would be under water as no drainage system is designed to handle that kind of water. I haven't heard of anyone getting that kind of rainfall from this storm.

So KevinFSU - Are you going to sue because of someone giving the wrong rain fall amounts? That is a lot of rain for such a short period, but I don't doubt it.

BTW - So sorry about your dog. We have one that has been with us for 16 and although he has some medical trouble, Oreo is going strong without any medications.

Just checked the Orlando Sentinel, and they said most of Central Florida got around 5 inches of rain, so that 28 must be some sort of cumulative amount over some sort of time frame.

(Incidentally, both my wife and I graduated from FSU.)

As I said, I have not been able to verify that data. However, I do know that it is not for the whole month, because those systems reset every night at midnight. In fact, if you go to the website now, you can see that it reset last night because it reads 2.16" of rain.

I do know that a number of places in central Florida received over 15" of rain. I'll admit, 29" sounds a little high to me...but I haven't found anything to refute it either.

bb- Go NOLES!!!!!!!! I sure hope we don't come down to a freaking field goal on Friday. I've had enough of those. Most I've seen anywhere (also in the Orlando Sentinel) was the east central coast that got about 13-15 inches. That is weird that it was showing almost 29 inches.

Thanks Family. Your kind words prevented you from being sued. Our lab is still going strong at 13 years.... he's refusing to go down... lol. At least now its a little easier to smile about some memories, although still a sad smile. Despite being such a big, tough German Shepherd, Major hated storms. If there was one in the middle of the night, he'd force himself into our bed, and lay on top of me and shake. Despite getting onto him and laughing at him then, I sure do miss it now. With the bad weather here due to Frances, I have no doubt he'd have jumped on me again last night.

Our dogs hate storms also. Oreo is deaf now, so that's a good thing when it comes to thunder. The JRT has to be tranquilized when we get a major thunder and lightning storm.
