France trip photos - more, more, and more added!

I've never had a problem taking photos in museums in Europe, either. Most have a 'No Flash' policy with most of the paintings because they are specially lit to protect them from the damaging effects of light and the flash can ruin them. The only places they are strict about 'no photography' that I've found- inside Sacre Coeur and inside the Sistine Chapel.
i wondered about the museums as well. daughter has a shot of a crabby guard shooing her away from taking a photo( little point and shoot but could well have been using a flash, she's kind of clueless that way) of the Mona Lisa so i was surprised to see the other one posted...guess it depends on the guard that day ... it is a funny shot with the juxtaposition of crabby guard face vs serene Mona Lisa

really like the second traffic shot, nice effect of the taillights and street lights, even if you took a dangerous position in the traffic;) and also the wine cask room

Such beautiful pictures! I especially like the museum shots and the cheateaux and wine barrels. Certainly reinforces my wonderful visions of France compared to DH's nightmare when he traveled there once as a chaperone for school group and still complains about the trip!

Thank you! Yes, I can see where being a chaperone for a school trip in Paris could easily put you into survival mode and not allow you to enjoy your surroundings.

Thanks! I was a little more daring over there than I normally would be, say shooting around my hometown. I just wanted to try to avoid getting "snapshots" at (almost) all costs :thumbsup2 .

Well, I posted a few night shots of Bordeaux on page 1 of this thread, but here are a couple more

This is a shot of the Bordeaux Customs Office from across the Gironde

This was a restaurant that offered the best view of the city at night (the shot above was taken outside this restaurant)

I thought the blue light highlighting the bell was pretty neat (just realized after uploading this picture that it's a bit crooked. I'll need to fix it in Lightroom and then upload it again).

That's about it for Bordeaux. Like I said, I didn't have much sightseeing time there. I'll finish up the processing on some of my miscellaneous shots from around Paris and wrap this thread up.

These are just some miscellaneous shots around Paris.

This was in a small museum called Musée Marmottan Monet that was displaying some of Monet's Nymphaes works.

Thanks for looking!

Beautiful pictures Todd! I'd love to get back again with my DSLR. First time there was with a film SLR many years ago and then a P&S about 5 years ago. I can't believe you braved the traffic around the Arc. You should have met a van driver we had (I think he took us to the Moulin Rouge). He kept telling us how he couldn't believe how slow people in the US drive. :lmao: I would not have wanted to be crossing the street when he was around. We nick named him Mario Andretti and just closed our eyes when we couldn't stand it any more!

Thank you! Yes, they do drive MUCH faster in Europe. We took a taxi from our hotel back to CDG Airport and at one point, the speedometer read 160 km/hr which is right at 100 mph :scared1: Since we didn't make it over to DL Paris, this was our thrill ride of the trip.

at first i thought the restroom sign was the "running" guy on the top sign which imo would have been even funnier( ok sick humor i know):lmao:

One thing I should clear up about this picture is that my beautiful wife is not trying to pose with me to make a "cute couple's picture," she is actually putting her arm around me and pulling me away saying (very subtly) "let's go because you look like an idiot taking a picture of yourself!"

Now see my dh made me lounge on the floor in the Musee D'Orsay mimicking the pose of a statue for a photo while people walked by no doubt muttering "stupid Americans." :lmao:

I've really enjoyed your photos. Paris is such a wonderful city, and you've captured it well. I wish we'd run across that Dali museum when we were there; it looks fascinating. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks very much! Yes, I'm sure there were plenty of moments where I looked like "the stupid American" :lmao:, but we had fun.

I plan on looking like a stupid Canadian when I go so there is no shame in that...DH is really tolerant of my picture taking so it's ok in that sense.;)

Just went through all your shots Todd. All I can say is wow!!!! Great job!! Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup2

Fabulous photos. My fiance and I will be heading to Europe next Christmas (as part of our honeymoon) and France (Paris and the surrounding countryside) is on our itinerary. Thanks for the photos, it's making us look forward to the trip that much more. I'm of course, lugging my DSLR around Europe and hope to capture many of the same sights.

Cheers!

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your comments and your time in looking though these.

I may post more pictures from the trip after taking a quick break from the post-processing. Chances are I'll see some shots differently after not having looked at them for a while (i.e. salvage some shots ;) ).
