One thing I should clear up about this picture is that my beautiful wife is not trying to pose with me to make a "cute couple's picture," she is actually putting her arm around me and pulling me away saying (very subtly) "let's go because you look like an idiot taking a picture of yourself!"

I was really looking forward to seeing Notre Dame and it did not disappoint. It was an absolutely beautiful church, both inside and out.

Sacre Coeur (Church of the Sacred Heart) is at the top of a hill in a Paris subdivision called Montmartre. This is a very artsy neighborhood that I highly recommend visiting when you go to Paris. Sacre Coeur actually looks a lot older than it really is. It was completed in 1914 and took 30 years to build.

Unfortunately, they didn't allow photography of any kind inside the Basilica, but it was just as beautiful as the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Another beautiful bunch! You did a great job Thanks for continuing to add more! Did you happen to take the metro to Sacre Coeur? I remember it was a long way up the stairs out of the subway and another long walk up the stairs to the church. I couldn't believe how far below ground some of the trains run. We also got 'had' by some men at the bottom of those stairs- they ask to see your finger and if you dared put it out they tie a string around it(really quickly) and start making a bracelet of thread, then proceed to try and get you to pay 20 euro for it! I am embarassed to say I have one My DH and one of my DD's has one too. Didn't give him 20 euro each, tho. Maybe 5 euro each. I guess they need to eat, too.

So I have a question; how long did you stay in France?? DW and I are looking at going on a European vacation through Virgin (like the record store) and they have a trip of 3 days in Paris and 3 days in Rome. Just curious (not to hijack the thread.)

We did take the metro to one of the Montmartre stations and then had a long (uphill) walk to Sacre Coeur like you said. Yes some of those trains run 30 meters underground. It's really amazing and efficient. We had absolutely no problems using the Paris Metro. You do have to watch out for the swindlers (if you want to call them that). They can spot tourists a mile away
After walking around Montmartre, we made our way down to see the Moulin Rouge (not the show, just the building) and to pick up the Metro at Pigalle (I think that was the name of it). We didn't realize how close we were venturing to the red light district and this was the only time in Paris where I felt a little uneasy. We weren't threatened by anyone, but just the people who boarded the metro at that station looked a little creepy. Sorry our red light district story isn't any more interesting than that . The conversation between me and my wife went something like "ooh look, there's the Moulin Rouge. I think the metro station is this way... wait a second... what is that? holy smokes, look at that! LOL look at that chair in the window! OK seen enough, let's get out of here!" If you've been to Paris, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about!

No problem

We stayed 4 days in Bordeaux and 3 days in Paris. I felt that we were able to cover a lot of Paris in that time and the metro wasn't even running one of those days. If you plan to visit a lot of the museums, you might just have time to hit the major attractions (which is what we did). You could easily spend 2-3 days in the Louvre alone! I've never been to Rome, but that's another spot on my list places to visit during my lifetime.
