FP+ Strategy with Motion Sickness Sufferer

Growing up, I loved the fast, jerky rides, though I never really liked going upside down. As I have gotten older though, I find myself becoming more prone to mild to mid-level motion sickness. In 2011, when we last visited WDW, I had to risk it and rode Expedition Everest for the first time. It was fun, but I paid the price...I didn't get sick, but my head was wonky for a few hours afterwards (not fun).

We are returning later this year and I am thinking about FP+ reservations. My wife and daughter will want to go on Everest and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (I am fine on the Magic Kingdom coasters, Dinosaur, and Test Track), which I will gladly skip, but how would that work with FP+ reservations? I cannot imagine that I have to book EE or RnRC for all three of us, scan my MagicBand at the attraction (thus confirming that I "used" my FP) and then bow out. My concern is all of us having the option of getting additional FP+ reservations beyond our original 3 if available the day of our visit.

Can I book FPs for the two of them and a separate one for me at a nearby attraction, assuming one exists at a similar return window? Or, must I book for all three of us on the same attraction initially and then transfer mine to something else at the same time? Again, this is really only for EE and RnRC.

Thanks!

You can book whatever you like for yourself.

What I do is book everyone together and then change my selections for me when I could not or chose not to ride one by one. It is important to CHANGE and not cancel.

This way, I find attractions in the similar time frame. If by chance it bumps it to a totally different time frame, I go back and change the time for that attraction and often the time I want comes up.

Or you can just book for them and then book your own and just go in and change times to match the times they have.

But long story short, you are free to book whatever you like for yourself.

I feel your pain! I was a thrill seeker, but even small rides make me feel gross now. I'm going to try Bonine (it's the same drug as non-drowsy Dramamine). It's what they give out on cruise ships. I'm also thinking about getting the prescription patch behind the ear thing (I don't know the name!) for motion sickness. Both of these are supposed to have fewer side effects than Dramamine (especially the drowsy thing). I still want to go on all the rides, but not feel gross, so I'm hoping this works for me.
Just something to think about!

You could book your own thing, or book RR and let your daughter ride twice.

I'm really surprised you can handle dinosaur. I think its a much rougher ride.

Watch out for the patch. They put one on me when I had outpatient surgery. I was still nauseous after the surgery but my mouth was really, really dry so I couldn't even eat crackers or toast. Then when I got home, I threw up anyway.

Last year at Magic Kingdom, my friends went on Big Thunder and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Since I know I'm prone to motion sickness, there was no way I was going to join them on those rides. I found a spot to watch for them, and I managed to get pictures of them on the rides. I even heard one of my friends pointing me out to the others when he spotted me. I had fun trying to get pictures of them, everybody enjoyed the pictures, and I didn't feel sick. I use one of the pictures on my cell phone lock screen. It makes me happy to look at it and remember a fun time.

Good to know! I got sick during both of my surgeries, so maybe I will just stick to the Bonine! Thanks!

I hardly ride anything at all, so I used my FPs for my daughter and husband. Since there's just 3 of us, I divvied them up to where they could each do 4 FPs. I had to color code our plans so I could keep straight which magic bands they needed. These were our plans for one MK day:

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
09:50 AM to 10:45 AM
Audrey L and Chris L

Peter Pan's Flight®
11:10 AM to 12:05 PM
Chris L and Michelle B

Splash Mountain®
12:45 PM to 01:35 PM
Audrey L and Chris L

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad®
01:35 PM to 02:35 PM
Michelle B and Audrey L

Audrey and Chris were the "riders", so there were 2 FPs where I just booked them under their names, and then one for Audrey with me, and one for Chris with me. In those instances, one of them took my magicband. You might want to do this, and then ride the things you like standby with your family. BTW - this will also leave one FP where you can book yourself (all 3 of you). I actually had us all booked for SDMT in case I wanted to ride.

*Where the times aren't exactly an hour in length, it's because I had overlapping times, so I put the actual times where they overlapped so I didn't screw up and send them in early or late. :)
