Our window opens up on Saturday but I guess we won't be able to make reservations for this in September since they've barely loaded May... looks like we will have to plan on using a FP and be pleasantly surprised if I'm lucky enough to be online whenever they load more into the system. Little did I know when we were disappointed last July...
Agreeing with PP - friends were there last night with reserved dining seats. Arrived around 6:20 and it was mostly full. We were there last Tuesday & by 6:40 it was obviously full on the dining/standby side, a little later for the FP side. Looks like a minimum of 30 min in FP side and 45+ for dining. There wasn't a line (we went to Nemo and had one group standing waiting for the line to start from about 5:30 on - when we realized no line was forming and they were just letting people in continuously, we went in). Yes to food, at least last week. The family in front of us was enjoying their dinner
I absolutely agree that this show should be every night as soon as possible. The crowds will build throughout the month with spring breaks around the country. And other than manning (which I realize is not insignificant), it is not as if they are firing tens of thousands of dollars worth of pyro each show.
It is a stunning show in a beautiful setting, and fits in so well with the park overall. I was also extremely impressed with the logistics of entry and exit for the crowd. I was able to leave from the middle of the fastpass section at 7:31 last night and check in at the Express Transportation kiosk next to the safari at 7:37. That would certainly never happen from Fantasmic!
So I have a question then about the "standby/dining package" side. . . .are there sections blocked off and "protected" for the dining package folks, or is it a free for all in the area for both standby and dining package folks once they open the gates so to speak.....are the "dining package" plans allowed entrance before they open it up to Standby? If it is all a common area shared by standby and dining package, I can easily see how it would fill up before all of the dining package people had entered which would be a major disappointment for those paying the extra money for the package assuming it "guaranteed" them a seat! I do have a ROL dining package, but was planning on arriving early so I am not necessarily worried about it but we do have a party of 6 and I was planning on being the designated person to sit and hold the other 5 seats so I can see it may be a potential issue.
ROL is totally new to me ... I've actually never been at AK later than 2:00pm.
I'm thinking it might be worth getting a dining reservation. Which restaurant(s)
have ROL dining plan? (I'm assuming you get priority seating with this.)

You all convinced me! I am going over Easter Week and staying off site so can only make FP selections at the 30 day mark. I just booked a ROL Tusker House breakfast package at 10:40 AM on my AK day. I really wanted 10:50, but it was already gone. I checked again after I booked and I think I got the very last breakfast slot for April 11th!
